Okay, you theater lovers! How would you like to watch some history being made. I am sure you know that we have our own Awards that are given out for excellence in theater for all those marvelous actors, directors, technical people and companies. These are the Jeff Awards. A treasure and an honor for all of those who bring entertainment into the lives of those who attend our glorious productions. The Jeff Awards for the “Non-Equity” productions will be presented on June 6th at Park West- a fun filled affair that will make you feel as if you are truly an insider in the Chicago theater scene.
For those of you who are not aware of what Equity is, it is the union that represents “STAGE” performers and workers in the theater. Non-Equity performers and tech people as well as directors are not members of the union, many by choice, but being Equity or Non-Equity has no bearing on the talent that is brought to the table. The performers who perform in the Non-Equity productions are as powerful and as talented and of greater importance, devoted to bringing quality theater to our audiences. Many of these people work a full time job and then give of themselves night after night during rehearsals, tech weeks and of course performances. As the line in “A Chorus Line” says, they did it for love- love of making audiences laugh or cry; love of the applause and the feeling from making people think and of course the love of making a character or a story come to life- from page to stage.
You can see the Award Ceremony for yourself on Monday,June 6th at Park West located at 322 W. Armitage in Chicago. Doors open at 6 p.m. with a light buffet at 6:30 p.m. and the ceremony at 7:30 p.m., There will be scenes from plays, musical numbers and lots of great “inside” fun.
