“The Carpenters Songbook: A Live Celebration” in Milwaukee

***** Last week, I had the good fortune of doing an interview with the young lady who brings Karen Carpenter’s personality and voice back to life. They were on a 50-city tour, so it had to be via telephone for the radio. Last night, Jane and I drove up to Milwaukee to see this performance, and we were wowed by what we were witness to. First of all, going to Milwaukee from the North Shore is easier than the trip downtown. The Marcus Center-Uihlein Hall is a wonderful venue with ease of parking, great concessions, and very comfortable seating. In fact, before the show even began, we felt at home.

We have visited the venue before, but always for their Broadway series musicals, never a concert; I must tell you that the way they do concerts and the way the music filled the crowded theater convinced us that this is indeed a perfect place for a concert of any type. The show itself was absolutely amazing. The story is told by both Richard ( brought to life byKevin Lausche, who is also the musical director) and Karen ( Christina Helene Braa is amazing) tell us the history of the duo through their music and of course, do many wonderful songs. Both Jane and I found that if we closed our eyes, we were transported back in time, as Christina’s voice is so close to that of Karen.

Yes, they did all the songs, including a little ” Merry Christmas ( well, it is October, so why not). But for me, it was hearing “Rainy Days and Mondays”, “Close To You”, “We’ve Only Just Begun”, my favorite “Superstar,” and so many more. Two hours of memories that we will cherish. The ride back to Northbrook was easier as we talked about what a wonderful evening of storytelling and music we had just experienced.

The show is on the road, so to find out more, visit www.carpenterssongbooklive.com
