“Showtune Sunday Brunch”

***** Chicago is filled with hidden treasures, just waiting to be found. I first became aware of one of these when arriving early for a play at Invictus Theatre located on Thorndale. I parked my car and went into the neighboring Rewired Pizza and Cafe. It was clean and bustling with people who appeared to be from the neighborhood. I ordered a drink and something that I love, and seldom see on a menu, Deviled Eggs. They were delicious and made just right. I also watched plates of other foods being delivered that looked pretty good, so I gave myself a message to check this place out.

As Father’s Day was approaching as well as my son’s birthday and his wedding anniversary, and I read that they had a “Showtune Sunday Brunch”, I decided that this might be perfect. We made the arrangements to make sure the kids were up for this as well. We arrived on Sunday morning at about 10 a.m and met our host Daniel. They have a nice indoor area where the actual show took place and a lovely garden area allowing for fresh air and the ability for us to celebrate all of our occasions as well as hear some of the music.

The menu for their brunch is very clever with sections named “Everything’s Coming Up Brunch”, “Food Glorious Food”, “Food Sure To Leave You Satisfied” and “A Few of My Favorite Sides”. The drinks are also clever and while the coffee’s were the main attraction, being Father’s Day, and sitting with my two favorite Cary/Cari’s ( both my son and his wife  are the same name except for spelling) I enjoyed the “Bloody Carrie) ( a Bloody Mary that was sensational). They have lots of choices for coffee breaks and wine and beer as well.

For our meal, we started out with an assortment of rolls, fresh baked and delicious. Then for the meals, I enjoyed “Mama Will Provide Breakfast” al pastor meat, pineapple, pickled onion, potato,  salsa verde, cilantro and an over-easy egg- on the side, I selected fruit and we also had some of their amazing crepes/pancakes.

Jane and Cary had the “Some Enchanted Wrap” scrambled egg, cheddar cheese potato, and chipotle mayo in a golden wrap, and girl Cari had the “Oh What A Beautiful Breakfast” ( two eggs her way, choice of ham, bacon or sausage, breakfast potatoes and sourdough toast). Delicious! Again, cleverness rules with other items such as “The Pancakes Lola Wants”, Mrs. Lovett’s Quiche” and “mean green Mother Avo Toast” and a lot more.

Meanwhile, in the main room ( and coming by every so often) on the first and third Sundays, was the entertainer,  Monique Marquee- dynamite!

Since this is “Pride” month, before we left, we were offered a special slice of “Pride Cake” to share. It was delicious and made the day perfect.
