“1964: The Tribute”

***** Those of you who listened to last week’s radio show ( you can find it on this site at “radio shows”) will recall that I spoke with  Mark Benson ( a/k/s John Lennon) of the group that is called “1964 The Tribute”. These 4 men , who all received a coffee mug and pen from Around The Town Chicago, put on one hell of a show! Frank, Mike, Jane and I attended the show at The Genesee Theatre in Waukegan after a scrumptious dinner down the street at  The Green Town Tavern (110 S. Genesee Street).

The Genesee is an amazing place to see ( and hear) a concert and for the most part, Mark and his crew come onstage as the Fab Four putting on a concert with the songs of the early 1960’s. Yes, there are many other groups that portray the Beatles, but most of them try to do the lives of the men and their music, rather than put on a concert. I for one, love the concert idea and the fact that these 4 are able to do two hours of audience/performers love of each other and the wonderful experience that they are having.

Yes, the show was only for one night, but the reason I am telling you about it is that they will come back. When they do, and you hear me announce it on my radio show ( and I will), then you will make sure you do not miss them again. I have seen others do this group, but never with the same feeling and attitude. While these are not the same men who started this group almost 40 years ago, Benson, was one of the originals ( and the only remaining one) back when they were called ” 1964 The Beatles” and then changed to its current name. Their show is a bit longer than what the original “Fab Four” gave their audiences and they work with better sound systems, making the experience top notch and a memorable evening.

What is cool about attending their performance is that the audience had kids, teens,  and people as old as me ( octogenarians), and all of them were having a blast. Who can ask for anything more. The Genesee has become a great concert venue with its new state of the art sound system and they do some great shows. The seats give you leg room and standing room. The only thing I might suggest for the venue is cup holders at the seats. If you are selling beverages, most people prefer drinking over spilling.

There is always something happening at the Genesee- check out www.geneseetheatre.com
