“Flyover Chicago Revisited”

Today, we took another flight over Chicago at the newest attraction at Navy Pier, “Flyover Chicago”! I guess my excitement got the family into it and our trip today was a three-generation flying-experience.

Our grandson, Adam, home from college, Daughter Julie, Jane and me. Of course I had already experienced this exciting addition to the Pier, but Adam and his mom were anxious to see for themselves. Jane was a bit apprehensive ( she is fearful of heights- except “In The Heights”), so she did not enjoy the experience as much as we did.

Adam’s only negative remark was that some of te scenes we flew into were a bit grainy. I suppose the drones that took the pictures didn’t take that into consideration when they blew them up. I didn’t notice and I might say, perhaps Adam is in the 1% that might.

Julie thought it was a lot of fun and just might be ready to go back with the girls ( two granddaughters that I would gladly join for another tour of the city). I did notice that while the ride itself was unchanged, I noticed different things this time than the first, so I am thinking that a few more rides might be needed to get the full impact.

While the ride itself is only about 10 minutes, one must leave time to watch the upfront segments.

First, a waiting area with photos and videos of places and landmarks in Chicago. Then we are moved to another area where we truly get a glimpse of what we are about to experience. In this segment, pay close attention as some of what you see will show up when you take flight, making it extra special!

Your guide will then lead you to the actual flight bench where you will stow any small items, fasten your seat belt and prepare to have the trip that brings you closer to the city of Chicago than you ever expected. Go with the flow and you will have a wonderful experience, that is worth returning for again.

The entire experience is 30 minutes. Children must be 40″ tall. Children under 13 MUST be accompanied by an adult. FYI- there are several experiences where stair climbing is involved, but they do have elevators for those who are in need of same The immersive journey starts every 15-20 minutes during business hours starting at 11 a.m.

Navy Pier is located at 600 East Grand Avenue (directly across from the Children’s Museum) and can easily be reached by public transportation. Garage parking is available and of course there are many activities in addition to the Flyover project, so make a day of it. To pick a time and pre-order your tickets, visit www.experienceflyover.com
