HOW WE’RE TACKLING THE PROBLEM
Our strategy centers around working holistically on men’s health, which is different from our previous disease-centric approach. We want to evolve masculine norms, support men in adopting healthier behaviors, and advocate for health systems to better meet their needs.
The problems we aim to solve are challenging. No one individual, organization or group will solve them alone. To work across behaviors, systems, and norms, we’ll work within a collective impact model. This means working with partners, united behind a common goal to change men’s lives for the better.
These partnerships will work to deliver investment, scale, expertise and reach –enabling collective change to be made faster and greater than we
would working on our own.
WHY OUR WORK IS IMPORTANT:
In the US, 1 in 7 men reported having been diagnosed with depressive disorder In 2021, over 12,400 men between the ages of 15 and 34 died by suicide in the US; more than 34 men per day.
-1 in 8 men in the US will receive a
diagnosis of prostate cancer in
their lifetime
-In the US, Testicular cancer is
the most commonly diagnosed
cancer in young men aged
between 15 and 34
WE CAN CHANGE THIS
By focusing on the root causes of men’s ill health we can improve men’s health more broadly. And by changing men’s behaviors, evolving norms of
what it means to ‘be a man’, and by improving the systems and settings that men interact with, we can improve men’s health and create generational change and healthier societies.
As a global health movement that can truly engage men like no one else, Movember is uniquely positioned to lead the charge.
WHERE THE MONEY GOES
Here’s a sample of some the projects our community has helped fund:
Making Connections:
Making Connections for Mental Health and Wellbeing Among Men and Boys, which supports historically marginalized communities in the US by
centering community-led approaches for boys and young men
. Through capacity building, including strengthening skills, abilities, and resources, we support communities to build stronger, more resilient, mental health.
True North
Movember’s True North Prostate Cancer site is a go-to resource for men with prostate cancer, enabling them to better navigate their cancer journey, compare their experiences with other men and receive support and practice guidance.
Nuts & Bolts
Nuts & Bolts provides free digital resources and peer-to-peer support for men with testicular cancer. While the survival rate ishigh, evidence shows the diagnosis-to-early-treatment phase can be very distressing. This is hampered by a lack of credible, user-friendly information and peer support inthe early days. Nuts & Bolts fills the gap.
