Sweet Cafe is indeed Sweet eats!

There is a new eatery in Chicago, just minutes from the suburb of Niles, that will make your day special. Breakfast, Lunch, or brunch- the menu is designed to please the palate of every member of your family. They have a wonderful “young folks” menu (coloring sheet) with just about every favorite a child might want: silver dollar pancakes, French toast/several ways, grilled cheese ( my fav), egg and of course a cheeseburger.

We went to Sweet Cafe, located at 6348 West Higgins this morning for “brunch”. The menu is huge and with only Frank and I available today, we could only select some of the many items. I arrived before Frank, so while enjoying my coffee, I was able to watch many items go by, making me more confused as to which selections would be best to tell you about. The items that we selected to try ( with the help of our Hostess Stephania and our server, Sylvia)  were as follows:

Under the SWEET column on their menu:

“The Berry Blast” traditional buttermilk pancakes  topped with fresh seasonal berries , a berry glaze and powdered sugar. These were delicious even without the fresh maple syrup and creamy butter.

The French Toast selection is vast and varied, but from what I was told, the Crème Brulee Style was the one to go with: They use a challah bread ( thick and delicious) and it has a cracked sugar crust with seasonal berries. Again, served with warm maple syrup and also some homemade whipped cream. They also have other French Toast plates as well as three options of Crepes and four amazing salads are available.

We then selected an item from the SAVORY section of the menu where they have many omelet choices as well as skillet bowls. It was the Benedict section that caught my eye- they have them all, classic, Mediterranean, southern, chicken & biscuits and then the one we selected, Smoked Salmon: cold smoked salmon ( lox to some), poached eggs, pickled onions, topped with homemade hollandaise sauce on a toasted English muffin- truly perfect!

They have a number of Paninis and sandwiches, but as you know, I am a fanatic when it comes to Grilled Cheese, and when I saw one go by, I knew that we had to try that one. Last week, we did a grilled cheese that was supposedly “the best in Chicago”- move over, red rover, there is a new winner in town- a classic  with a combo of American, cheddar and Muenster, homemade pesto, tomato and crispy bacon ( truly crispy) on challah bread. TERRIFIC!!! The homemade special potatoes are to die for!!!

They also have waffles, of course, eggs, ham off the bone ( one of my favorites). They do have every beverage you might want, and they offer liquor service as well, so your brunch can have everything you want.

The address is 6348 West Higgins ( with plenty of parking) and the phone number is 773-867-6100
