Another winter day- another soup!

Highly Recommended **** I am pretty sure that over all my years, Chicken Tortilla was never a soup that I was “into”. But since I am trying new soups during these bleak, cold days ( although we did have some bright sunlight today) I am trying new flavors. My good friends at Meal Village have soups on their menu. They are unique in that you do not go to them- they deliver to your home*  ( * If they do your zip) you need to go to their site, www.mealvillage.com, type in your zip code and if they do deliver to your zip- you are in for some great treats.

Both Jane and I have our favorite dinners. Their meatloaf, both regular and cheesey are great. They have lots of chicken dishes and for the colder weather, soups ( and Chili).

Chicken Tortilla soup  made with lots of chicken pieces ( white meat), tomatoes, onion, chiles, garlic, chili powder corn, black beans, riced corn tortillas, lime, cilantro oil, salt, pepper and chicken broth comes in a 32 ounce plastic container.

It is suggested that one place in a bowl that is micro wave  safe and cook at high for 2-3 minutes ( I stopped at 1 and 1/2 to stir) and only cooked for a total of 2 and 1/2 minutes. It was delicious and very filling. I think I may have had 16 ounces and by adding oyster crackers ( they come with the order), I felt satisfied, full and warm.

If you are suffering during this pandemic because you are avoiding dining out, then you need to check your zip code> You can be dining properly eating delicious food and saving money. They have kids meals, some breakfasts, even cookies and wonderful salads. Meal Village is the perfect remedy for those who prefer NOT to go out in this crazy world today.

Can’t wait to try their Beef Barley and Chicken Noodle!

Another day- Another soup!  Beef Barley!

When I grew up, during the winter months, my father loved to make beef barley soup. It was our Monday night soup ( as I recall, during the warmer months, Monday night was beanie and weenie night). My dad was not a cook, but he did have certain items that he was a master at. Beef Barley soup was one of them. Imagine my surprise when I tasted the soup delivered by Meal Village- it was as close as I can remember.

For those who are unfamiliar with this soup it is made of beef, oil, onions, carrots, celery, garlic, tomato, thyme, bay, barley ( of course), parsley, salt, pepper and of course a beef broth. All of these items blend together to give this soup almost a stew feeling and on a cold wintry day with forecast for snow, there is nothing quite like it. While I have always found the Continental in Buffalo Grove to be a close second to my dad’s broth, I was glad that Meal Village came close and with great ease. They delivered it to my residence, freshly prepared. I put in a bowl, then to the microwave for 2 1/2 minutes and added some oyster crackers for a warm and fuzzy feeling.

You can get the same feeling- go to www.mealvillage.com, see if they deliver to your zip and if they do, check out the menu ( they have lots of soups and some wonderful meals). Make everyone in your home happy without leaving your home.

Chicken Noodle- non-traditional!

Another “blursday” is in process. I call all of the days this, except Sunday, because not working, I do very little during the day. Oh, yes, I do “honey Do” things and run errands as well as write the reviews for the shows or eateries we visit the night before, but for over 700 days, the days are all pretty much the same. Thank God for restaurants and now theaters so that life is almost “normal”. Soup is my comfort food. I prefer home-made soups and I know that Meal Village, prepares their each day, and delivers it to those who placed orders. Today, Jane and I did the Chicken Noodle soup. Ingredients are of course a smooth chicken broth, oil, onions, salt, pepper, celery, parsley, carrots,  vegetable oil, thyme, bay and of course noodles. They use a larger than I am used to noodle with some curls and they were perfect. We heated the soup for 2 1/5 minutes in the microwave and put in the oyster crackers for a wonderful lunch. Again, to see if you are in a Meal Village delivery area, go to www.mealvillage.com.

put in your zip- if they deliver to your sip- the menu will come up. Scroll to the soups and order. If before noon, you will have that day. Again, Enjoy! We do!
