A few weeks ago, we had a nice chat with Michael Larson, GM of the Schaumburg Boomers, a minor league baseball team located in Schaumburg. Today, Frank and I went out to the ball park for the experience of watching a minor league game. It is fun!
Not only do fans get to see some young ball players working their way up the ranks, but the entire experience is “fan friendly” and far less costly than the major league experience. We watched the Boomers tackle the Sussex County Miners and although our home team lost, the game was exciting for all concerned.
The tickets we had were seats right behind home plate with a great view of not only the game but all of the activities that take place between innings. Today was “Dog Day” and many spectators brought their pets with as well. They all got “goodie bags”, and as dog lovers, we met some pretty neat “pups”!
Our tickets are known as the “All You Can Eat Tickets” where we have a wrist band that allows us to go to the concession stands during the entire game and just enjoy ( we did).
Wintrust Field ( their home) is sort of a mini-Wrigley, but without the bleachers. There are areas of lawn for picnicking, and seats that reach out to the outfield. The team is a member of the Partner League, and while these are the players of the future, they play a pretty solid brand of baseball.. The mascot is a fiesty Prairie Chicken ( that is what “Boomers” translates to) and were prevalent in Schaumburg within the last 100 years, so a perfect name and mascot. He or she is a ball of fire!
The season will continue thru Labor Day week-end and if they are lucky- beyond, into the playoffs
