Donuts are a “staple” in our lives. From one-of-a-kind such as Munster Donut ( Munster Indiana) to Wheeling Donut ( a family favorite) and of course the Dunkins all over the map ( in some areas every other block) America loves a donut! What would it be like if you could go to a donut shop, pick out the toppings that you desire, watch them be applied to a warm ( just out and warmed) mini-donut and then the toppings of your choice are applied! Wow!
That is the story behind Mini Donut Factory, that originated their concept back in 2008 at Gurnee Mills. Shame on me for not finding it sooner, but they have recently opened just blocks away from my home in Wheeling. They are in a shopping center at 1067 Lake Cook Road .
What take splace at Mini Donut Factory is that you can pick YOUR toppings. Yes, the entire process ( or should I say “experience” )takes place right before your eyes.
They begin by mixing the dough and they finish with the final stage of ready-to-eat delicious hot Mini Donuts ready to be devoured. But wait! While eating a warm plain donut sounds sensual, selecting the toppings of your choice and watching them get done is even more so! the ones pictures are only a sampling of the choices!
They have a wide range of toppings so you can pretty much customize for your own hunger pangs. Items such as traditional powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, and others like caramel sauce, strawberry, chocolate and many more will make you want to stay for awhile.
They also have beverages such as coffee, slushed ice or even a Horchata ( a beverage made of ground almonds, seeds, barley and rice.
