“Adding space to your closet”

Over our years of marriage, Jane and I have lived in many apartments and condos. Some have had extraordinary closet space and some quite basic. When we found our suburban dream apartment ( condo) we were impressed by the master walk-in closet, but after living here for almost two years realized that despite its appearance it was not as functional as the space could be.

As we learned after moving in, the previous owner had a friend who was her “handyman” and when she put it up for sale, had him redo the closet to give it the look of hugeness. As we put our clothes and shoes ( Jane truly loves her shoes), we found that we had outgrown this space. What could we do? Well we could give away a bunch of stuff we don’t wear often, or pack up things that may come back in style or even see what fits and what doesn’t ( hand the fits and store the unfits), or find an alternative.

We found THE alternative. A company called “ClozEtivity”. Their motto is “Style your closet-style your life” and today we can tell you and show you results.

I did not take pictures of the old system because I was in a hurry to take it down yesterday so they could install the new closet today. Yes, they did a walk in closet in one day.

It began in the fall of 2023. I spoke with Kevin the owner of the franchise and he came out, looked at what we had, asked questions about what our goals were ( closet-wise), took measurements and then left. Several days later, I was sent quotes and drawings to show us what we would be able to do with the space. I was quite impressed with what he sent. In particular the price. I had seen other closet companies  prices and knew that this was a bargain. We came to terms on the final look and scheduled the job for after Thanksgiving and before Christmas as I start doing Santa on December 1.

Wednesday, I began taking down the old shelves and rods. Kevin and his crew arrived this morning ( Thursday) at 9 a.m. and brought up the components that they would start with. They completed the takedown and removed the boards and other items so that I did not have to handle. When the old system was removed they mentioned that there is a service that could come out and fill in holes, spackle and paint, but we felt that the clothes would cover it and we could do that during the winter months when we were home anyway- one section at a time.

By four p.m., the job was complete, everything cleaned up including vacuuming and Jane and I could start putting clothes back in place. We still have shoes to place on shelves and as we look at the closet we can see that we have a far neater space, with even more usable space than anticipated. I did tell Jane that having more space was not a sign to go out and buy more clothes.

I think we will sleep well tonight knowing that we have the closet of our dreams at an affordable price and well designed and built ( with room to be flexible and make changes.
