***** High on a hill in a town called Northbrook, there is a 9 hole golf course, and a marvelous dining spot. The dining spot is an offshoot of a local Northbrook restaurant, The Landmark Inn, where local families have found great food for many years. The new spot, Landmark On The Hill, is located on Willow Road, and from this location, on a clear day, one can see all the way to the Chicago “skyline”. A special feeling will come over you.
While the building is comfy and cozy, and the meal, is delightful, it is in fact, the people that make it a very special experience indeed. There is an outdoor bar with stools, several high-top tables, and a patio filled with very comfy seats and chairs, allowing you to watch golfers tee off, as well as see the sun set in the west as you enjoy your dining experience.
Jane and I had stopped by before, once to witness one of their special entertainment nights, and a second to arrange for our feature as well as doing a video for “keeping you in da loop”. Tonight, Frank, Cary, Mike, Jane and I came out to spend more time on the menu.
Before I get into the food, I must tell you about a very special cocktail. It is a Peanut Butter & Jelly Old Fashioned, and believe it or not, all five of us enjoyed this very tasty beverage. Our server, Ana ( which is short for Anastasia) went over the items in the menu so we could truly taste several items.
The menu is a little smaller than the menu at Landmark on Shermer, but there are lots of choices. For appetizers or starters, we selected the Cajun Fried Pickles ( served with ranch dressing). These have a kick to them, but with the name Cajun, what else would you expect. The other starter was the Cheezy Beefy Eggrolls ( these are far different from any other egg roll you may have tried- Hummas grilled with veggies and cheese), delicious and a slight crunch as you munch. Loved these!
There are lots of sandwiches to choose from and some wonderful salads as well. We tried the Quesadillas- flour tortilla filled with cheese and served with sour cream. You can add chicken, shrimp or mushrooms or maybe all of the above) to suit your taste. The Grilled Cheese and Bacon sandwich was ti die for. I love grilled cheese, and will eat it any way anyone can serve it. This was superb ( and I know will please every kid out there, making this a neat spot for a family dinner).
There are lots of burgers, but we only wanted to try the He-Man Burger, topped with American cheese, lettuce, grilled onions and a SECRET He-Man Sauce. Don’t ask! It’s a secret, but quite tasty! Last but not least, we opted to try the Greek Steak: a marinated skirt steak topped with Feta cheese, tomato, red onions, served on a French roll with tzatziki & fries. I must tell you the fries were terrific and crispy, and all five of us were quite satisfied with the degree of crispness.
We did share a piece of strawberry cheesecake; that was the perfect way to end a perfect dinner. The Landmark on the Hill is located in Northbrook at 1350 Willow Road ( west of Waukegan Road). Take your time driving up the winding entranceway, and watch for the signage that says Landmark. Once you get there, park your car and enter the building, walk through to the patio, and then look around, and you will understand that there is a heaven… and you are there.
