As you all know, most of my evenings are spent going to a play or concert, or trying a new dining spot. Last night, we decided to see the new menu at American Place Casino’s Asia/Azteca Dining Room, play a few games, and head over to their Lighthouse Comedy Club, featuring the hysterical Tony Rock. If that name sounds familiar, it is because Tony is Chris’s brother and has appeared in TV shows and films you may have seen. I must tell you that while this room ( it is a temporary one, as they start to build the permanent structure) is not the greatest room but Rock truly rocked the place with his stories and his working the audience. He is truly a pro!

This is our third trip to the comedy club and we are seeing a better group of comics as American Place begins to establish itself as a destination in the Northern suburbs. There were people from Illinois and Wisconsin, all types, having a ball. Before walking over to the Lighthouse, we enjoyed an amazing dinner in the Asia-Azteca dining room. The decor is both and the menu allows either of the ethnic foods to be ordered or a combination.
We had been in this room before, but were advised the menu had some new items, so we asked our server, Laurence, to help us with these items.
We had Veggie Spring Rolls, Raja Crab Rangoon, Thai Chicken Satay Skewers ( Asian) and then over to the Azteca menu-
Guacamole with some dynamite chips ( sorry Seattle, I couldn’t resist), followed by a Street Taco Plate ( steak), , Flautas con Pollo ( chicken, of course) and the Quesabirria Tacos.
Laurence made sure we knew about the different sauces, as some will make your head spin (but in a wonderful way).
Our friends Alan and Vickie joined us for the evening and won a few bucks at the slots as well. Waukegan is a short ride from the north burbs and well worth the trip. The food is excellent ( they also have other dining spots in the casino- with more to come as they build the permanent structure, and there are shows pretty much every month. Josh Blue will be onstage on August 1st. The shows are at 8 p.m., so you can dine, play, and be entertained.

The American Place Casino is located at 4011 Fountain Square ( just off Waukegan Road and south of Route 120/Belvedere Road) in Waukegan. Lots of free parking. Must be 21 to enter and bring a driver’s license or proof of age.
They are open 24/7 BUT the dining spaces have different hours

American Place Casino is a place to have an evening to remember!
