Heat Wave!!!! and a miracle!

June was one of the warmest Junes I remember, and I have lived through over 80 of those. As a child, when air conditioning was not a “thing”, we learned how to deal with the heat, but over the years , and due to technology, for the most part, most of us are comfortable in the heat of summer and of course, the chill of winter. Last week, during the thick of the “heat Wave”, Jane complained that one of our unfits was not doing its job. Our apartment has what is called “zone” heating/air conditioning. We have two units, each taking on 1/2 of the apartment. By the way, this is the way to go!

When we first looked at the problem, it appeared that the electronic thermostat needed two new batteries. We did change them, and the numbers and fan began to work, so our A/c guy, Eric from Yorks Thermal Solutions, said to keep an eye and let him know if there are any problems. Later, I noticed, that the two rooms covered by unit 2 ( the name I am giving this unit) were not cooling, so I called and Eric returned. He opened up the unit that works for that segment of the apartment and lo and behold, there was ice all over the filter and inside the unit. How does this happen?

It seems that if you have a Freon leak, this is exactly what happens, and it sure was our situation. Eric let it run so it would thaw out and told me to put a fan in the cooler side of the apartment, blowing that air towards the bedroom, which I did, and went about our daily functions. This all took place on Friday night and Saturday. Sunday, while at the Boomers game, Eric called, said that by now it should have thawed, so please call when leaving the ball park- he would meet me at home!

We both headed to Northbrook, me with my keys and my hopes up and Eric with his tools and pounds of Freon. He did his thing and guess what? When Jane came home, our home was on its way to being the cool apartment that it had been just days ago. It was upper 90’s outside, and yet , we were at a comfy 68 degrees in Northbrook. Thank you Eric! You are a life saver!
