When we think of bakeries, like Delightful Pastries we think of the pastries, breads, cakes and cookies, but our good friend Dobra offers a great variety of foods as well. Now that the weather has chilled, and we are heading to soup season ( one of my favorite times of the year), I went to Delightful to pick up some of the amazing soups prepared in her kitchen. I picked up a quart of Barley and another of Squash. These are frozen and will be used tonight and Friday. I also felt the need to try a little carrot cake ( for the week-end) and as she is always talking about her Quiche, felt the need to see if it is as good as she says!
There were several to choose from and one can do a slice, or a full pie. I took two slices of the ham quiche. This morning, I warmed up one slice ( Jane will have the other later) and found myself falling in love with the flavor and texture of this amazing breakfast. The ham was plentiful, the crust perfect and all in all I would have to say that with the holidays coming, and guests as well, this might be the greatest item to have in the house for breakfast or even for lunch or dinner.
Take a look at her website and see the amazing foods she has in stock or that you can order. Visit www.delightfulpastries.com or better yet, take a ride to 5927 West Lawrence Avenue, walk in the bakery ( passing all the aromas and marvelous sweets) and look at the freezer and fridge selections. You can call 773-545-7215. You will be amazed at what you see, and then, when you get them home and follow the instructions, will have enjoyed some of the best of Chicago. *****
