***** Over the years, I have heard about the combination of “Chicken & Waffles” and its popularity throughout the South. Needless to say when I heard that the Greater Chicago area was now home to several of these breakfast /lunch places, my ears perked up ( as did my appetite) and we went off to visit Chicago Waffles. They have four locations in the area. South Loop at 1400 S. Michigan Avenue, west Loop at 1104 West Madison Street, South burbs at 10S642 Kingery Hwy in Willowbrook and in Oak Park at 726 West Lake Street where Jane and I met our kids today.
I must tell you that Oak Park is a thriving city where we saw lots of activity and the place was jumping. The menu is huge with many amazing and different items. Waffles ( of course), pancakes, omelets, skillets and of course eggs. They also have a large selection of sandwiches, salads, crepes and French toast. The four items that we partook of were from “on the beny side” a waffle benedict- two large waffles, pulled pork, poached eggs with a wonderful Hollandais sauce. By the way, the potatoes were absolutely amazing!
Cari had a half order on the eggs menu: one egg with signature potatoes, toast and turkey patties ( or bacon or sausage) and my son Cary had the Avocado Toast- poached egg, brioche bread, pesto, Burrato cheese, mashed avocado, roasted tomatoes and watercress. Last, but not least, Jane had the Waffle Sandwich, two eggs ( up) bacon, American Cheese and a side of seasonal fruit. This also comes as a Waffle/Chicken sandwich. Everything was tasty and the presentations were beautiful. Our server, Nick was thoughtful in his suggestions and made sure that our coffee was always full.
As I said earlier, the menu is so large that there is no way that anyone in your party cannot find something to their liking. They also have a kids menu and of course, the half orders make light dining easy as pie ( or should I say, “easy as waffles”). For those who like “South of the Border” specialties, they have Huevos Rancheros and several other items and for those who enjoy a bagel, you are covered as well.
These are breakfast and lunch ( also known as brunch) dining experiences and they are open Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. til 2 p.m. ( or 3 p.m. depending on location). On Saturday and Sundays they stay open until 4 p.m.
The website is www.chicagowaffles.com.
They are located at 1400 S. Michigan Avenue 312-854-8572
1104 West Madison Street 312-837-3935
Willowbrook 10S642 Kingery Hwy 630-568-3199
Oak Park 726 West Lake Street 847-921-4003
If you are ready to try something different, this is the place! I know we are going back to try some other items ( the cheddar & short rib waffle sounds great!).
