The Happy Lobster- food truck time, for sure!

Recommended *** The last 16 months have been a learning experience in dining as well as being entertained. One of the highlights of our new way of life is “The Food Truck”. There are lots o fhtem and they have come in handy for party catering and for trying something new without having to “face the world at larger”!.

I keep hearing about them and so I decided perhaps, with the warm weather approaching ( in actuality- it came and went /and will return) let’s go for it. Tonight, our granddaughter, Rebecca had a softball game in Northbrook. As it turns out, The Happy Lobster Food Truck was going to be in the area allowing perfect timing to pick up and bring to the field.

Here is how it is supposed to work- you go to their website www.happylobstertruck.com. There you will see the menu- it is limited, but the items are delicious. It is not the same as being in Maine, but runs a very close second. We selected the grilled cheese/lobster sandwich ( toasted to perfection, so that your taste buds will come to life) and their Happy Lobster Box- a sort of Lobstor roll, but more on the bun than rolled into the bun. Each came with slaw and chips. The other choice they have is the Sad Lobster ( a great choice for those “who like it hot!”!

I ordered one of their special items, a Whoopie Pie ( but as it turns out, they ran out). I was a special order in that I had ordered for Glencoe’s stop on Saturday, but asked for the change when I heard about tonight’s game. They were able to do the change, but sans the whoopie. ( Next time for sure).

There are many food trucks in the area and they have schedules that take them hither and yon, but if you check with Tock at www.exploretock.com

While it is best to follow the norm and pre-order, they are in a position to accept some walk-up orders, but rather than chance them being out of the desired plate, I suggest you do the pre-order. You will have a time to do the pick-up and they will make sure all the finishing touches are applied within minutes of your scheduled time. There are no tables where we picked up ( unless one goes to the nearby restaurants ( a NO NO in my book), but you can ick up and take it home or in our case to the field. We could also have gone to the nearby park or if timed right, to Ravinia ( they are open this summer).

I want to learn more about the Food Trucks in the area and would love to hear from you. Tell me about your experience and I will see what type of prizes I can send you. If we try one and do a story, I will send you a gift and talk about on the Around The Town radio show ( Sundays 2-3 pm on WCPT820 am).

My e-mail is albresloff@yahoo.com

FYI-Everything is foil wrapped and boxed. The sandwiches stayed warm for 14 minutes- Can’t wait to do it again!
