Highly Recommended **** Since the theaters have been closed, I am getting more calls relative to new dining spots in and around Chicago. One of the texts I was sent mentioned “Stacked & Folded”. At first, my thoughts turned to other tan dining. The name made me think “Laundromat” or “dry Cleaners”, certainly NOT a dining spot. As it turns out, this is a dining spot, in fact two. The initial location is in Winnetka, 55 Lincoln Avenue. The newer store and one that will have dine-in space, once they feel comfortable for both customers and employees is just west of the Northwestern campus at 824 Noyes. A great location near the “L” stop and the Noyes Cultural Center with outside seating available.
Their “mission Statement” says they are a fresh local restaurant focusing on creating a fast-casual dining atmosphere that’s healthy. Family friendly comfort food with a twist! The meats are locally sourced and all braised and cooked IN HOUSE!
Jane and I stopped by the Evanston location, met Josh Keating ( the man behind the concept) and went over the menu items. WE gave him our preferences and while we waited for them to be prepared, we sat in their very clean outside area as we enjoyed their Hummas and Naan appetizer. This is a VEGAN dish , and the roasted corn nachos ( roasted corn, black beans, jalepenos , pico de gall, pepper jack cheese, corn tortilla chips, topped with S & F crema. DELISH! The other “shared” items also look very good!
The menu has a great selection of burgers. We sampled the Stacked Social Burger ( double beef patty, avocado, caramelized onion, cheddar cheese and chipotle aioli served on a brioche bun. On the STACKED side of the menu, we selected the BBQ pulled pork ( amazing flavor and just the right amount of zestiness). We also enjoyed the Turkey and Brie ( hand carved oven roasted turkey breast, granny smith apple, brie cheese, cranberry aioli served on country walnut raisin bread. A treat to behold and to savor.
On the folded side of the menu, we chose the Ahi Tuna Poke (fresh sashimi ahi tuna, cucumber and avocado tossed in a sweet soy sauce topped with S & F slaw in a crispy wanton shell. The folded list is large and should make every person in your party be able to select their favorite.
They also have another section- forked containing lots of salads and dinners ( at very affordable prices) Oh, did I mention, Jane and I enjoyed some Guacamole (freshly made) and Chips ( also made in-house). to start our dinner.
This was after consuming just about every morsel of the two great appetizers we started our afternoon off with.
You can call either location and place your order or order online at www.stackedandfolded.com
Evanston number 847-328-9100 Winnetka 847-386-9100
They do have some cocktails, wines and beer as well as soft drinks of all types ( including Mexican coke and Jarritos) . In Evanston the parking is metered, but some of the side streets are free.
While the name was a bit confusing, it turned out that the listener who gave me this lead turned me on to a dining space that is filled with great items, well prepared, tasty and at prices that are affordable. Thank you for leading me to this wonderful discovery! Once they open the indoor seating, families will be flocking to this Evanston location.
