“Angels On Your Pillow” REVIEW

angelsimagesAbout a month ago (late last year) I learned that an associate of mine, Karen Lee Kelly, had written a children’s book. As my readers know, being a proud grandparent and wanting the kids to be into everything, I have reviewed some children’s books in the past, so I asked Karen if this would be okay with her. She was excited to have them be a part of her process into a new horizon. Her book is titled “Angels On Your Pillow” with adorable illustrations by Bryce Westervelt.

Karen tells me that this line was a traditional one from her past, and one that evidently had a great impact on her life. She sent me copies so I could have the girls read it (my grandsons were not even considered). Sarah and Rebecca, the ones local were the first to read the book. Sarah, who is 8 found it to be easy reading and while she loved the drawings and the basic idea, and knowing “Its A Wonderful Life”, knew of “angels”, said that being Jewish, and not believing in them made it hard to stay “in-tune” with the idea that there were indeed Angels “everywhere”.

Rebecca, the six-year-old (going on 16) said that she was in total agreement with her sister. She said, “me, too!”.

I felt that I owed more to the author (this being her first book) and so I gave a copy to our part time house-keeper who has two daughter as well as a copy to one of the waitresses at The Continental Restaurant in Buffalo Grove (one I frequent almost daily). Monica’s daughter felt the book was very religious and that they also felt that there were angels everywhere. They do not read, so they had to be read to.angel review

Ashley’s two girls, Jocelyn, who is 9 years old and in 3rd grade does read and enjoyed the book, finding it had a message detailing God’s endless love for all of his “children”. Younger sister, Lily, age 7, in the first grade, read the book several times, once or twice with mom at hand and other times on her own. Her message was that Ms Kelly was relating that the angels are watching over us. Probably at the request of God who has many things to do, so the angels are his helpers (as they should be).
