***** I do not have a category for concerts, but if I did, I would have to add the theatrical experience we had tonight to that classification. Last week, on my radio show, I had the pleasure of speaking with Brendan Jacob Smith, who plays Art Garfunkel in The production called” The Simon & Garfunkel Story”, a bio concert that chronicles their journey from boyhood to super stardom and their break-up and return engagement in Central park in New York.
On the way to the performance tonight, Jane said she was not sure that she even liked them, and at intermission, all smiles, she said, “these two guys were better than the real guys”. and after the encore all she could do was talk about what a wonderful evening this was. Directed by Dean Elliot, and starring Smith along with Jonah Boho as Paul Simon, this is two hours of story telling mixed with concert that will entertain and educate you on the men and their music.
Using state of the art footage of their past and things that are a part of the times, and watching ( and listening to them) their personal story which is very similar to the men they are portraying, one feels that they are perfect to play these parts. Again, you will have an experience that you will never forget and will also learn a great deal about each of them as friends, partners and collaborators.
For the record, you will hear many songs that you know and a few that you may never have been exposed to. 30 plus songs. “Cecilia”, “Bridge Over Troubled Water”, “Mrs. Robinson”, “The Sound of Silence” and many more of theirs along with a few solos they had during their split;
These two men command the stage and with the aid of four amazing musicians tell us a story about two of America’s greatest performers during the “Rock N’ Roll” era of Viet Nam.
