“The Lifespan of a Fact” Reviewed by Paul Lisnek

***** “The Lifespan of a Fact” is a thought-provoking play that takes you to the edge of a critical decision.. and then lets YOU decide!

That would have been my headline if this were a newspaper, thus grabbing your interest in what this play is all about. In fact, this play raises the fascinating question of where journalistic truth begins and unfortunately, pesky facts get in the way of the emotional impact of the story. It looks at where seasoned journalists get challenged by a youthful upstart who thinks right is right and wrong is wrong and never the two shall meet.

In this play, the two indeed do meet and an ultimate decision must be made both on deadline and with the acceptance of truth…. or maybe not!

“The Lifespan of a Fact” is smart, engaging, and with just the right blend of humor to keep the very serious issues it raises at bay…but nevertheless, a decision must be made.

How fabulous that Timeline Artistic Director, PJ Powers returns to his acting roots for a powerful performance that blends artistry with emotional integrity. Juliet Hart, as his editor, finds herself caught between the great writer and the young upstart fact checker who pushes her to her editorial limits.

Alex Benito Rodriguez is a welcome addition for his Timeline debut as he performs with the dedication and urgency required by his character who is driven by truth and emotional journalistic standards. How does the novice stand up to a legend?

This production had the departing audience in deep discussion of what the players should have done, and in true Timeline fashion, true history fill their walls inviting audience members to cast their votes with pins on the wall to let others know what they would do. What ultimate decisions would Timeline theatergoers make in this case? Not surprisingly the status of the vote is (SPLIT), but this show will have its own lifespan thru December 23rd ( or perhaps an extension will occur) so we will see what we will see.
