[rating=3] Hell in a Handbag has been bringing us parodies of “The Golden Girls” for years. Now with the theaters closed, they have discovered a new way to bring their shows to the public- the internet. They are now doing a new show, “The Golden Girls: The Lost Episodes, Volume 4- LOCKDOWN!” which fits the world we are living in today.
In response to the Covid 19 pandemic, David Cerda, Artistic Director of Hell In A Handbag Productions is doing the very first ON-LINE production where Blanche ( Grant Drager) comes home with Legionnairres Disease, causing all of Miami to be on Lockdown for 30 days., Dorothy ( David Cerda, who loves this characters, and it shows), Rose ( Incredibly handled by Ed Jones) and Sophia (Ryan Oates) are all in their respective isolation areas and we also get to meet some other characters to bring us through the 30 days of isolation.
There are some very funny bits and some very sexual content . I imagine directing a number of actors who are in different locations is quite a task, but Spenser Davis pulls it off and while I know that being LIVE with the audience all together we would feel more laughter, I am impressed at the way they pulled off this first of its kind.
This production is available thru August 15th
Tickets are $20 at either www.stage773.com or www.hellinahandbag.com
Patrons will receive a link and a password via VIMEO to view the performance which is roughly 80 minutes. There are some commercials which are in place for more comedy.
Enjoy! If you are a “Golden Girls” fan, you will enjoy the way these guys take on the roles.
