***** If you love to laugh, and just have a good time, then the place to be is the Venus Cabaret on Southport. They are currently hosting a marvelous musical journey thru Broadway musicals. Hosted by Ginger Minj and Gidget Galore, this 90 minute romp will have you falling out of your chair, even if you have little sense of humor. I must say that as we drove to the North side, Jane expressed that she was only going because it was Friday night and she didn’t want to stay home. Once the show began, I heard her laugh out loud several times and saw the gleam and sparkle in her eyes for the entire show. She had a ball!
These talented performers take us on a trip down the “Great White Way” with songs from “The Sound of Music”, “Sunset Boulevard”, ” A Chorus Line”, “Lez Miz” and a special tribute to “Annie” and one even stronger to “Gypsy”.
Since they have no music, they rely on the AI of something they purchased on Amazon called “Dyslexia” to find what they need. This is truly an escape from reality, but with Broadway music to lead the way. They even get some audience members involved by doing a contest. They do 10 songs from Broadway musicals in like 8 minutes. The audience members write down the songs, and the winner gets to come on stage and do an intro into the big finale. If you’re sitting near the stage, be prepared to be IN the show. I can tell you, those who were had a blast!
These are two very talented “besties” who understand that the world is not a happy place all the time. They take the 90 minutes that you have in the theater to relax each and every patron , allowing them to forget the world during that time and just have a good time. After all, isn’t the reason we go out to the theater to leave our troubles outside and just have fun?
This show will guarantee that you leave with a smile ( perhaps even a grin) on your face, and you will find yourself discussing the fun you had on the ride home as well as the next morning when you talk to friends. This is what one must call a “FEEL GOOD” show and these “Broads” sure know how to take you away from reality!
If you have never attended a “Drag” show before, you will be enamored by what you see. If you have seen a show ( or two) you will find yourself in heaven as Ginger and Gidget never miss a beat taking you along their Great White Way trip.
The one negative to this show is the limited time you have the opportunity to be part of the action. “The Broads’ Way” will play at The Venus Cabaret ( of The Mercury Theatre) located at 3745 N. Southport Avenue in Chicago thru February 4th with performances as follows:
