Editor note: This is an amazing production. Chicago was fortunate enough to have seen this show several times. First, prior to Broadway at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, then when the tour began. I warned Amy that this was a do not miss event and am happy to see she agreed. If you can make the trip to Detroit or just happen to be headed that way, why not order your tickets. Meanwhile, keep your eye on this site as I will announce any future productions in Chicago or Milwaukee. Listen to WCPT820 a.m. radio on Sundays 2-3 p.m. as well. NOTE: Limited tickets are available! To find out availability and or order call Marcus Center Box Office at 414-273-2706,
[rating=5]I laughed, I giggled, and I got goosebumps. And when I got home, I texted a bunch of people to let them know they HAVE TO SEE THIS SHOW! Same goes for you, dear reader.
I’d love to send you to www.marcuscenter.org to purchase your tickets, but it seems that the Milwaukee run is sold out. Six is headed to Detroit in June though and tickets go on sale March 17, so you may want to set a reminder on your phone. I’ll wait. Then come back to read more…
Reminder set? Good. You’re in for a treat. A high-energy, entertaining, enormous treat. Who knew a retelling of history could be so much fun – and catchy? ” Six” brings all six wives of Henry VIII together for a sing-off of sorts. Each wife takes a turn taking center stage to tell her story (not to be confused with history). It’s a strange and oddly endearing game of “who had it worse,” with the winner being er–crowned the new lead singer of the girl group The Ladies in Waiting. You might even call it a head-to-beheaded challenge.
This theater-goer was here for it. And it seems that many other theater-goers are here for it again. The house erupted when the queens took the stage. The musical, which premiered in 2019 and is currently running on Broadway, has an enthusiastic following. Several fans wore shirts that said, “Okay ladies, let’s get in reformation!”
I get it. The shirt, of course, but also the following. I love a production that seems to have stemmed from a, “What if we…” question. Creators Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss allowed their imaginations to run wild and we reap the benefits. For the next few days, midwesterners are some of the lucky ones with” Six” running through March 12 as part of the 2022/23 Johnson Financial Group Broadway Series at the Marcus Performing Arts Center.
If you don’t catch this run, make your plans to catch it at the Fisher Theater in Detroit (broadwayindetroit.com).
Six is a must-see!
