“Monster Jam” by Caitlin Collado

the arena is filled with Monster Trucks, four wheelers and even snowmobiles doing all types of races and jumps. I have to say that it kept me on the edge of my seat for almost two hours. While many races and events are well planned, the problem with a show like this is the element of surprise or error. This keeps the audience in focus as anything can happen- and does!

[rating=4]If you love loud reckless driving driving, and I mean really loud, then you will truly enjoy Monster Jam” at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont. Yes, the arena is filled with Monster Trucks, four wheelers and even snowmobiles doing  all types of races and jumps. I have to say that it kept me on the edge of my seat for almost two hours. While many races and events are well planned, the problem with a show like this is the element of surprise or error. This keeps the audience in focus as anything can happen- and does!

In the performance we witnessed, one of the monster mutts got to much air on their jump and caused some of the sponsor signage to be ripped off the walls. We also watched Superman ( the name of one of the vehicles) had his wheels clip the back end of the “trash car” and slide and smash into the wall right in front of us- talk about sitting on the edge of one’s seat!

When it came to the competition, Gravedigger came out as the winner, despite having a flat tire that occured while taking out a chunk during its big jump. This is a show for all ages, if you like “loud” and watching large trucks do tricks and defy the rules of “safe driving”. As a high school student, enrolled in drivers ed, I want to reinforce the notion that these drivers are professional, so do not attempt any of the stints they do in this wild and loud show. I enjoyed the show as did the people who attended with me- it is not for those who have heart problems as there are some very scary moments- races and jumps galore- a fun evening for all.

This is one of those week-end events so you only have the opportunity to see the show on Sunday, February 12th at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at The Allstate Arena in Rosemont

Tickets start at $20 and for an extra $5 you can go at 11 a.m. for the party in the pit- a special treat for your “Jam” lovers

Look at my Grandfather’s article for ticket info and don’t forget your earplugs!
