Paul Levy is tireless and works every day to make Chicago and the world a better place. His good works are innumerable, done without any thought of recognition and support the arts, the built environment, civic policy and more.
This year, Paul is allowing Chicago Human Rhythm Project to honor him, acknowledge his service and celebrate his LIFETIME of good work with their JUBA! Award. I can’t imagine a more deserving human being.
This will take place July 18 @ 6pm at the MCA-Chicago to Raise the Roof and Burn the Mortgage of our new Southside education-cultural facility – the Mayfair Arts Center (MAC). The evening will include:
6:00 PM Cocktail Reception on the
MCA Terrace (tented)
7:00 PM Gala Performance, JUBA! Award Ceremony in the Edlis Neeson Theater
8:15 PM Supper, Dessert, Libations
MCA Atrium with Nick Cave Exhibition
Paul guided the MCA through the process of acquiring and repairing the MAC and while they are already open with limited operations, their GRAND OPENING will be September 18. The MAC will provide dance, music and visual arts instruction in Calumet Heights (Chicago’s 8th Ward at 87th and Bennett) – for children, teens, adults and elders. The MAC will also serve as a business incubator for independent artists and other nonprofits including Black Girls Dance, Deeply Rooted Dance Theater, Joel Hall Dancers and Center and more.
Those interested may join them on July 18th to help finish the work that Paul has helped to start. Thanks to a generous gift by two anonymous donors, they have a $100,000 matching challenge that – if matched – will get them very close to their goal of Raising the Roof and Burning the Mortgage.
In addition to honoring Paul, they will also honor the Broadway show “Paradise Square” which had its start here in Chicago ( my review is up at www.aroundthetownchicago.com )
