[rating=4]OMG! OH MY GOD, YOU GUYS! Legally Blonde – The Musical is playing now through January 26 (hurry!) at the Marcus Performing Arts Center in Milwaukee and I would say it’s just as much fun as you’d expect, but I think it’s even more fun than you’d expect.
It’s the musical rendition of the 2001 romcom which featured Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods, a young woman with a fashion merchandising degree pursuing a Harvard law degree (“What? Like it’s hard?)…in order to win back her ex-boyfriend. This production features Hannah Bonnett in the lead role and Bonnett takes Woods to another dimension. A singing, dancing, and still Delta Nu-loving dimension.
Of course, what’s a woman without her besties? Woods has her own Greek chorus of sorts in her sorority sisters, and her closest three, the trio played by Jesse Lynn Harte, Taylor Lloyd, and Rory Furey-King, bring advice, support, the bend and snap, plenty of laughs and plenty of dance moves to the stage.
Tuesday’s audience was most entertained – well, really, they were most entertained. Period. There were hoots and hollers and vocal reactions throughout the entire show, but especially during the big musical numbers. “What You Want,” Whipped Into Shape,” (which features incredible choreography with jump ropes!) and “Omigod You Guys” (of course) seemed to be hits with everyone in attendance.
The show is just a heck of a lot of fun. So round up your sorority sisters and/or your fun-loving friends and get to the Marcus Performing Arts Center. Then grab yourselves a glass of the featured “Bend and Ginger Snap” cocktail, find your seats, and enjoy!
