[rating=4]Tonight, was a transformative musical experience at the Apollo theatre. As you walk in the theatre every seat comes with a West Africa drum called the Djembe, beckoning you to touch and play it, and let your inner soul come out. With the help of the Emcee played by Ben Hope, he teaches us the magic and how to handle and play the Djembe. The main performer and singer, who teaches us the sounds and songs from West Africa Rashada Dawan, a native of Chicago, who’s voice is so pleasant to listen to, and teaches us the culture of the Djembe.
“Djembe” is from a form of communication and we learn how it has traveled the globe, influencing all the music that we listen too. For a 90-minute show, it is packed with so much information, and with teaching us how to play and enjoy this instrument, and even thou I found out I have no rhythm, I still was able to enjoy this show. With the help of master Djembe player Fode Lavia Camara, who is from Guinea, West Africa, we learned all that this wonderful instrument can do. Rounding out the evening were the seven back-ground musicians, who carried out the Rhythm that we needed to enhance the performance of the Djembe.
All this enhanced the intimate setting of the Apollo Theatre, and to be honest, there are no bad seats in this place.
Parking is easy, plenty of street parking, and they also have their own lot.
