Highly Recommended **** Wheeling’s “Town Center” is starting to come to life. It has been stymied a bit by the “virus” and as they began to open, the days or Covid-19 placed barriers in their way. One of those establishments, Eggsperience, a great breakfast/lunch spot was just about ready to open its doors when the Governor said that all restaurants MUST close. The word late became BUT you could do pick-up and delivery. Eggsperience has not opened yet, and the people were not yet fully trained, so they felt it best to wait it out. They have! They recently opened their doors ( well, in reality, NOT their doors) and can serve on their patio area ( which are the sidewalks on three sides of the building located in Wheeling at 419 Dundee Road ( at Northgate) in Wheelings Town Center.
I celebrated Father’s Day there this morning along with my wife, Jane, my daughter, Jennifer and granddaughter, Caitlin. We had a delicious breakfast to start the day.
Jane enjoyed their Egg White Delight- two scrambled egg whites cooked with garden fresh spinach, mushrooms, roasted red peppers and low-fat mozzarella cheese. It was served with fresh fruit and an order of toast ( there were some other choices). Along with this, a side order of bacon ( which she agreed was the BEST bacon she had ever been served). The portion was great, but of greater importance, the flavors were perfect!
Caitlin, who is a true foodie ( with a degree in culinary arts) enjoyed the California Avocado Chicken sandwich ( she is an early rise, so 10 am to her is lunch). This is served on a warm brioche bun- a grilled chicken breast topped with avocado, hardwood smoked bacon, swiss cheese and sriracha mayo. For her side, Caitlin had a bowl of chicken with rice soup- she truly enjoyed her meal.
Jennifer LOVED the French Toast, and wonder of wonders, left a clean plate. For the most part, Jen takes half of her meals home for later or the next day. She left nothing behind!
I dug into the Tommy Boy Skillet, layered with hardwood smoked bacon, ham off the bone, pork sausage and cheddar cheese all rolled into a skillet with some very scrambled eggs. I opted for the pancakes instead of toast for my side, and although I could not finish everything ( I said the portions are greater than most) I did enjoy every bite I took. By the way, the other ingredient I forgot to mention is the layered diced red potatoes- wow, were they good and yes, they completed the Tommy Boy Skillet to perfection.
The table was perfect, the service exceeded our expectations and the staff were genuinely interested in our happiness. They were “masked” careful not miss every opportunity to make sure we were happy and made the experience one that not only is memorable, but one that we are happy to return to. I have been to other locations ( I think they are franchises) and must day, this new one in Wheeling is one that should be where you start your day or meet a friend for lunc. They are ONLY open from 7 a.m.- 3 p.m.
The phone number is 847-655-7448 and website www.eggsperiencecafe.com. Enjoy ! Soon, you will be able to enter the building and since they are JUST opening the inside, you might be the first. I know this will be a regular spot for my family.
