**** I love “sushi”! Those of you who read this website regularly or listen to me on the radio know this to be a fact. It was my friend Barry that got me started on a trip to Houston some 25 years ago, and I have never looked back. When I am made aware of a new space, I AM IN !
Several of you have made me aware of a new place, Van’s Sushi Cafe in a strip center on Milwaukee Avenue, just north of Route 22 and south of Route 45. The address is Lincolnshire ( 1356 N. Milwaukee Avenue), but they are so close to Lincolnshire, I think they should say, Lincolnshire/Vernon Hills. The name is Van’s Sushi Cafe, but, it is really not a place to dine. They have two smaller tables, but in reality, Van’s is a great place to grab some delicious sushi for an on-the-tun quickie, or to bring home for the family.
They have some already prepared rolls and pieces, or you can order from the vast selection. We had five containers-
Crunchy California Roll- flavorful and juicy . I enjoy using no extra sauces. I did not need any! Perfection and Jane loves crunch!
Crab Inari ( this is one of the items that is “cooked”. May I say, this was something that Jane and I had never eaten before ( both of us loved it). My granddaughter, Caitlin not only knew it, but was overjoyed that Van included it in tonights meal!
Tempura Shrimp Roll- (another item that is cooked). A wonderful roll.
Spicy Tuna- terrific, but not as spicy as Van made it seem it might be. Either than or over the years we have increased our tolerance for “hot and spicy”!
Vernon Hills Combo- a unique blend of the areas favorites.
The packaging is perfect. One can eat right out of the container or as we did, use a plate. Just add a little soy sauce and you are ready to dig in ( or should I say, pick up with your chopsticks).
Everything was fresh as could be. I watched Van’s mother and cousin preparing some of the items we enjoyed and the others, also created by them, were taken out of the fridge in the location. Here is the kicker. Prices are as low as $5.00
Yes, you read that right. For the price ( approximate) of a burger and fries, you can enjoy a sushi roll or several pieces. I don’t think they have anything over $12 and honestly, many sushi restaurants start at that price ( except for basic rolls).
