[rating=4]Over the years, I have seen many restaurants specialize in breakfast and lunch only. One location in Wheeling, along Milwaukee Avenue ( back in the 60’s this area was known as “restaurant Row” with names like Le Francias, Don Roth’s, Fulton Market and so many more). While many names have changed and new places have arrived, there is still a stretch that fits the name. Bob Chin is a well known name that despite the pandemic is still open and serving wonderful meals. Today, Jane , Frank and I visited Rise N Dine on this stretch of road at 102 South Milwaukee ( just South of Dundee under the famous WHEELING Water Tower). Going back in history, this building started out as a pizza joint ( My Pie)and as a chamber of commerce member, many a dinner meeting was held there.
While places like Normandy, and Hackney’s are now memories, Ivan Arriola and his staff are ready and willing to make your day start off with a fresh cup of “joe” and a warm and friendly smile. Arturo was part of our service today as we tried some of the specials and newer items on their menu. FYI- many of the dishes offered an option of toast or pancakes, and since toast is just toast, and they are known for pancakes, we opted to do pancakes ( even though we are all watching our weight).
The entree’s ordered were the Santa Monica Fritata- mushrooms, roasted red peppers, spinach, onions, avocado and mozzarella with salsa on the side. The avocados were as tasty as any I have ever had. For our pancakes, we took the plain “house” pancakes- delightful!
One of the daily specials was our second choice- Al Pastor Skillet, marinated pork, jalepenos, pineapple, queso fresco, diced potatoes and 2 eggs ( which we had over well). Our pancakes were the strawberry and were tasty
The third items was from their vast pancake list and one of the new menu items- Cinnamon Apple Pancakes, cinnamon mascar pie filling, caramel sauce with sliced apples. This combination is also available in a waffle version as well as Crepes. The menu is large and covers it all- breakfast, brunch or lunch.
Rise N Dine has expanded their menu and their hours. They are now open until 3 p.m.. They open at 7 a.m. They offer dine-in, carry out and of course some limited delivery. They do have outdoor seating(weather permitting) and do accept reservations. While we were there, a party of twelve arrived and they were able to easily handle comfy seating for this family. They are definitely a “family restaurant”, I am sure one could meet a business client for breakfast or lunch and be able to feel comfortable. The sound level was perfect and they do have Wi-Fi to share
The phone number is 847-541-4900 and the website is www.risendinecafe.com
Plenty of parking and they accept all major credit cards.
If you are looking for a great place for breakfast, brunch or lunch, you will be pleased and well satisfied to visit Rise N Dine Cafe in Wheeling.
