[rating=4] Here we are once again. On the road, to pick up our dinner, curbside. During this craziness of the Covid-19, our lives have been changed. While I cannot show you the beauty of the interior of the restaurant or their presentation, I can tell you that the folks at Nando’s Peri-Peri Chicken will add a little spice to your life. Nando’s is a franchise, but I would imagine the menu is the same at every location and from what I hear under a tight control of the upper management. As far as curbside pick-up, the location I went to in the South Loop was easy to get to and every items was boxed to perfection.
Nando’s is famous for its South African flavors and their chicken can be ordered from “plainish” to Extra Hot” ( with many stops between). Peri-Peri is a chilli pepper and is mixed with garlic, fresh lemons and some other tasty ingredients. The fresh chickens are marinated in this mixture for 24 hours and then flame-grilled to order.
Jane and I had the “Jumbo Chicken Platter”. Two whole chickens with two essential sides. For our sides we opted for Portuguese Rice ( house made with a little zing) and Macho Peas ( a rugged mash of whole peas, parsley, mint and chilli). During the summer they also offer corn-on-the-cob, flame-grilled. We also added some garlic bread ( another Portuguese treat)
By the way, we opted out on salads, but they have a nice selection to choose from. WE did enjoy their Hummus with Peri-Peri drizzle on fresh pita bread.
The menu offers some sandwiches and wraps. This being a chicken restaurant, the majority are chicken-related. They do have a few veggie items including a veggie burger and a nice selection of desserts. We selected the Naughty Natas, a traditional Portuguese custard tart served warm with a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar.
Nando’s has a beer and wine menu along with some special drinks, so when they re-open ( and our lives go back to a new normal) and you can dine-in, you can enjoy an entire experience of Portuguese/South-African dining.
Please note that the presentation I made on our dishes is the best that I can do. I can tell you that the experience was unique and the food flavor-full with great affordability.
The location is the South Loop at 1005 South Delano Court. This is the center known as The Roosevelt Collection with the entrance off Roosevelt Road just west of State Street. The phone number is 312-204-7151
