[rating=5] Looking to find great food? How many of us drive down Dundee Road every day and are unfamiliar with the Wheeling Town Center? Yes, Wheeling is growing and they have added their own “Town Center” just west of City Hall and the Police Department. There are parks, a wonderful water park ( summer), a great workout facility, a mulit-plex movie theater and several dining spots. One of those is MP Kitchen & Bar and it is amazing!
They have been open for awhile, but under the name Meat & Potatoes. Since this version of that restaurant is far different they have opted to make a change to MP Kitchen & Bar- a perfect name as they do have a bar with some great cocktails. I was torn between my favorite Old Fashion and a martini, but opted to do the Moscow Mule (ginger beer and Titos vodka) and Frank, in order to stay with me went for the Mexican Mule ( tequila instead of vodka). We both enjoyed our cocktails while Jane did her Ice tea.
The menu is quite large with many choices ( and I mean many). From the “shareable” section, we chose the Nacho Platter. I must tell you their chips were probably the best we have ever had. They were crisp , yet thick enough not to crumble when tasting the marvelous nachos. There are many others to choose from, but we were trying to contain ourselves.
The flatbread section has something for everyone- since rumor had it that pot roast was absolutely marvelous, we opted to do the Pot Roast Flatbread ( pot-roast, carmelized onions, Monterey jack cheese, parmesan cheese with a balsamic glaze) to die for! We also did some tasting as their Chef, Iran kept bringing us tastes- The Mac N’ Cheese and the Chili are both more than enough to make a meal of. By the way, they have some great looking soups and salads and with the cold weather upon us, the Chili is sheer perfection.
The burgers that we saw going to other tables were all marvelous in appearance and based on the clean plates heading back to the kitchen, quite enjoyable- NEXT TIME for sure!
Iran knew that our stomachs were somewhat limited in space and so we did some fantastic tastings, sharing Ma! The Meatloaf (bacon wrapped home made meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, crispy onions seasoned veggies- we skipped the bread & butter). We also had one of their famous pork chops served with roasted potatoes topped with a lime and fresh herb sauce and served in a sauce of sautéed peppers and onion. Again, we skipped the bread and butter- why not?
They also have salmon, chicken dishes, skirt steak and of course pot roast as well as a slew of sandwiches ( they call them hand-helds) including chicken club, Cubano, pulled pork pot roast dip and of course they offer their fabulous meatloaf in a sandwich ( keeping the bacon wrapper). They even have a junior menu for te kids, lots of great side dishes and sweet treats that will knock your socks off- the Homemade Cheesecake will send you to heaven.
While they are partnered with the Meat and Potato restaurants, they do have several “meatless” items on their menu- the Garden Burger, Crazy Caprese (fresh mozzarella, basil, tomato, red onion, baby spinach, balsamic vinaigrette on a grilled ciabetta and last but not least, the Veg-Out ( roasted red pepper hummus, sautéed bell peppers, red onions, grilled mushrooms, baby spinach, balsamic vinaigrettes, feta chese wrapped in a large flour tortilla ) you can also get pita bread as we did.
Every family member is sure to find something that they will call a true dining experience. Yes, that’s it. Going to MP is not just dining out, it is having a dining experience, dining on the freshest of ingredients, made with the lovingness of care in order to make you feel as special as you are!
