***** We have all heard the expression “Heaven on Earth” and for many, when it comes to finding great barbeque, finding that, is in fact what they are speaking about. Well, guess what? There is a new BBQ place in the Northwest burbs that is “grassroot” family style BBQ and its name is Heaven’s Barbecue on Earth. Says it all, doesn’t it?
We had heard about this family friendly space in Wheeling( on the border of Buffalo Grove) located in the shopping center called Huntington Lane ( the exact address is ONE Huntington Lane). This is a family business that is run by the Jordan family. When you enter, you can see that this is strictly a family business, run by a family that cares about other families. They have south side barbecue traditions of a combination of smoked wood blend, making for the perfect taste. They emphasize quality, serving food as if it was for their family Sunday dinner.
Jane and I went there tonight, joined by Frank and Cary. We met the owner Oneko Jordan ( her name is Japanese for “hope” and she serves a great deal of that everyday) and her son Chris. Since we had never been there before, rather than select an item or two, we opted to do a menu sampling…and wow!
We selected a few of their appetizers; the Fried Butterfly Shrimp served with a cocktail sauce that just the right amount of tang were delicious and their cornbread was absolutely amazing ( available as a single, 1/2 dozen or even a dozen for a family dinner). They also have a Jalepeno cheese version that will open your eyes wide ( very wide!) If you love cornbread, you will feel like you have died and gone to heaven!
We did a beef brisket sandwich that was perfect ( this is brisket one might order for special occasions and holidays- like grandma used to make) and the pulled pork without the bun,
The ribs were sensational and meaty. They offer Baby Back ribs ( 1/3 slab, 1/2 slab and full slab) as well as St. Louis Ribs. They offer several sauces so you can choose your “poison” and they also have South Side Rib Tips.
By the way, their Mac and cheese is to die for and they do a cole slaw with a special taste of apple slices that add wonderful flavor to the dish.
They also have wings, salads, links and corn on the cob as well as sweet potato fries.
The menu also has some kids meals: chicken tenders, mac and cheese and Noah’s ribs. The beverages are bottled sodas and water for adults and juice and drinks for kids.
Much to our chagrin, we were too full to try the desserts ( all home made, and all looking wonderful), but we plan on going back for Shirley’s Chicken Wings, so we will do that on the next visit: Creamy Carmel Cake, Turtle Cheese cake, Heavenly butter cookies, pound cake, decadent chocolate cake and silky smooth cheese cake. All fresh and homemade!
They have plenty of comfortable tables for dine in and of course, they are known for carry-out ( they even have a special seating are for you to wait in). No matter which way, you will have that special meal that you craved and like the name says, a heavenly experience!
