[rating=4]Our lives have changed. For the past two months, we do not go to restaurants- they either come to us, or we do a curbside pick-up and our food is delivered by someone wearing a mask and rubber gloves. Over the years, I have often returned to restaurants previously reviewed and I was very glad to do so again. Tonight, we had dinner from Grill House in Northbrook. Last time there, we brought our grandkids and enjoyed an assortment of their menu amid the hustle-bustle of a bust family restaurant. This time was a little different. We picked up the food “curbside”. They have a terrific system. There are designated areas of the parking lot with numbers. You go to your number and they bring your food to you ( contactless). Very smartly done, during this “Rod Serling” period of our lives!.
They knew that we were a bit unsure of what items to select, so owner Nick Drivas made sure that we had as much as he could fit into two shopping bags. Four of us ended up with dinner and guess what, with the portions they serve, we are cool for tomorrow as well. The menu is HUGE-
From a wide slection of salads ( or wraps for those who prefer). We opted for the roasted chick pea wrap ( fresh romaine lettuce, feta cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, avocado and red onions with crispy chick peas). We only shared half and saved the other half for tomorrow’s lunch. Looking forward to the big hand and little hand reaching 12!
There are a number of ways to eat their chicken wings ( BBQ, Buffalo Siracha, Asian Gochujang and tropical Habanero- all good, some spicier than others. We skipped past the grinders ( what a selection they have as well as the “on a bun” section of the menu and the fabulous Gyros to the SOUVLAKI-Skewers. Served with Greek potatoes over a bed of rice, veggie garnish, pita bread and a small salad, we enjoyed two of these- The Filet Mignon plate and the Chicken plate. Both were juicy even without using the tzatziki sauce on the side.
While these were all wonderful, there was more to come.
The baby back rib dinner served with our selection of waffle fries ( instead of the Yukon whipped), coleslaw and garlic bread was marvelous. I often find myself struggling with ribs in order to feel right, but I did not have a struggle at all, and the meat was juicy and tender. Both Jane and I understand now why our granddaughter loves this place for ribs!
The last of the bags full of delicious eats was the Grecian Chicken. As you can see, the photo of this one is still in the container as we felt that in order to do this justice, we would wait for the next day. Truly something to look forward to because based on what we enjoyed tonight, there is even more in store for us and our taste buds.
They do have a desert menu, but we did not do that part. Being on the Covid 19 run, most of us find that weight gain is a part of the pandemic, so desert is out. But we did have a wonderful dining experience, albeit not at the Grill House located at 3061 Dundee Road ( White Plains Center) in Northbrook. They are open from 10:30 a.m. daily for lunch and until 9 p.m.. On Sundays , they open at 11 a.m. Take a look at the menu www.eatgrillhouse.com or call 847-205-2200.
As I said they have a great pick-up system to keep all safe and are ready and anxious to make your dining experience an easy and satisfying one. The presentation in the restaurant is not what I am showing. Remember this was a curbside pick-up so we plated the food ourselves for the photos ( thanks to Barry Segal for his photo work in making my photography look good).
With Mother’s Day coming up and not being able to go out, this may be your answer. Casual, affordable dining to make your meal memorable. Check their site for specials.
Nick is very community minded, feeding local front-line people and giving to the community. Monday, May 11th, He is donating 15% of his receipts to the Northfield Food Bank. Thanks Nick!
