[rating=4]Burgers!Burgers! Burgers! It seems in all my years of both adulthood and childhood, burgers have been a major part of diet consumption. From my childhood days, when Dad did the BBQ, then my teen-age years when we were first introduced to the magic of McDonald’s and Henry’s ( a sort of McDonald’s that was operated by Bressler Ice Cream/no relation) and onto later days where we have Five Guys and Meathead as well as the Red Robin and their endless fries. Well, boys and girls, there is a new burger place in the area, and in my honest opinion and that of my grandkids, this is THE PLACE for burgers. The name is BurgerFi, with a selection of choices that can please “every1”!
The building is located in Glenview, at 1735 N. Milwaukee Avenue ( the corner of Lake Avenue), making it very close to Northbrook, Wheeling, Prospect Heights, Mt. Prospect, Des Plaines and Niles. It is NOT fast food! But your orders are filled at great speed. The hardest part of ordering is choosing which burger is the right one for you. The BurgerFi concept was developed by gourmet chefs wanting to serve the freshest of food, with the highest standards of quality and yet, at a price range making it affordable for families.
The most expensive of their creations is the CEO, a double Wagyu and brisket blend burger, homemade candied bacon-tomato jam and aged Swiss cheese. A delightful treat that is juicy and delicious. We dined there over the weekend and Jane fell in love with the CEO ( the sandwich, not the of the company) . Sarah, my 11 years old grand-daughter, who under most circumstances “never” finishes what she ordered, devoured ( and finished) a BurgerFi Bacon Cheeseburger and her Brother Adam, 13 going on 14 and growing devoured one of the same. He also ate a number of their hand cut fries and double battered onion rings. Our youngest, Rebecca only had the single burger ( not the kids, because she is 8 years old). All of the kids enjoyed one of the specialties of the house-Custard Milk Shakes.
We ordered three different flavors: Oreo ( Rebecca), Red Velvet ( Sarah) and Chocolate (Adam. Jane and I enjoyed soda from the machines that offer a variety of flavors. They have craft beers and special bottled sodas as well. By the way, the custard can also be ordered in a cup, for those who prefer not drinking their custard. For those who enjoy a glass of wine with their dinner, they have several vintages available and of course bottled water and a brand of tea, Honest ( that I hear is very flavorful). I spoke to some of the other guests.
FYI- they do have special Vegan menu items; The Beyond Burger ( 100% plant -based from Beyondmeat, American Cheese, ketchup, mustard, mayo, lettuce tomatoes, pickles and onions. A feast to behold, and for the Vegans in the building, “a special treat”. The menu also includes a breakfast all day burger where they add bacon and maple syrup, fried egg and hash browns with grilled onions. I think, next time. This visit, I wanted to try the hot dog and the Chicken sandwich. They have Texas, New York and a special American Wagyu beef. I opted for the Texas just to see what type of kick it had. This is in fact a Chili dog with cheese and a hot sauce ( made my bald spot sweat, it did) and for the chicken option, , I selected the fried ( they have a grilled for those who prefer) which I found terrific and very tasty.
I must tell you that all three of the kids, and my wife, loved the entire dinner and we all left with great smiles on our faces and tummies that were well-filled. The restaurant manager, Joe, is a super nice guy and the way they work is very family friendly. You walk in, view the menu, select the meals you want, pay and they hand you a beeper. You then go find your table, fill your soda cups ( unless you are getting shakes or beers, you do have to work for your beverage), gather the condiments and silverware you want or need and then wait for your custom order to be complete. Wait time is probably 7 1/2 minutes, but this meal is well worth the wait. This order was prepared as you asked for it, when you asked for it.
FYI- the food comes in either a wrapper ( burgers) or in a cardboard “boat” : fries, onions, chicken, hot dogs, but if you ask for additional trays to use as platters, they are very accommodating. We enjoyed everything about our experience at BurgerFi ( I still would like to see a “Chicago Dog”) and I am hoping they will add some local specials to their menu. They are national , so this may be a bit more difficult. Again, they are located at 1735 N. Milwaukee Avenue ( at Lake Avenue) in Glenview . The South East Corner. Phone number 847-376-8014. They are open everyday at 11 a.m. and close at 10 p.m.. Online www.Burgerfi.com. Hamburgers have come a long way, baby!
