[rating=3]What do you do when it is family night at your house? Parents with their kids, or perhaps kids with grandparents- what to do? Where to go? This happens in pretty much every area of the country. Our tastes have changed and with the hectic pace we keep, most of us are rushing all the time as we dart from place to place. Tonight, Jane and I had the pleasure of two of our granddaughters ( we have a total of 5 girls and 3 boys) for dinner. Our likes are a bit different, but we know the perfect spot that will appease us all-
Grill House in Northbrook is a great place to take the kids as the menu has just about everything covered. The burgers are terrific and Sarah added cheese and some crispy fries to complement the meal. The kids love a place that has a soda machine where 40 plus flavors await them. They become the “mad scientist” as the mix root beer, cola, Dr. Pepper and flavors to make a combination that is perfect for them- Sarah calls hers, THE SARAH!
Rebecca, opted for the pasta on the kids menu- Shells “N” Cheese, and finished it without any hesitation. She also had some of our appertizer- BBQ Wings that were delish ( very reminding of my favorite wings at “Franks 4 the Memories” up in Mundelein where I first enjoyed wings some 30 years ago). Her drink was another mixed liquid bag, called THE REB ( her nickname in all of her sports activities).
Jane ordered the Skirt Steak dinner served with Greek potatoes, BUT she opted for their new mashed potatoes ( THE BEST I COULD HAVE HOPED FOR). This came with a side salad, veggies and some terrific garlic bread. I was in the mood for their Chop Salad with grilled chicken. It was more than enough to satisfy us all with each tasting some of everything. In this way, we expose the kids to new tastes ( and often they do the same for us). Mine came with Pita, BUT, the reb grabbed that in exchange for the garlic bread- she is indeed a pita lover.
The menu is huge and everything tastes as good as it looks. By the way, they can do the salads in a wrap for those who prefer that and the selection is enough to cover anyone’s tastes. I counted over 16 salads on the menu. How can you please everyone in the family if you do not have a hot dog and they have that- charred and a cheese dog and of course the Polish Sausage. Sandwiches other than the dog and different type burgers include a Char-broiled chicken breast, a salmon sandwich and a pulled pork sandwich.
Worried about your favorite? If its Gyros, then not to worry, they have them! Want a skewer? souvlaki- four choices await you! I watched the grilled salmon dinner get served at the next table and made a note- Next time! Pastas and BBQ Ribs are also on the menu as well as grinders and Italian specialties. As I said, everyone in your family should be able to find exactly what they are looking for. And the beauty of this establishment is that you enter, place your order, pay and find your table. They will page you when the order is ready and often, the staff will make sure they bring you your order so that you can stay with the family. Waiting time is not a problem and you know they are preparing your meal now!
