From Their House to yours! Butter + Vine.

Highly Recommended **** We are all aware of the “new world” we are living in. Yes, in many ways we are in a special edition of Rod Serling’s “The Twilight Zone” 2020! We have all altered our lives and lifestyles. Many of us have had to make major changes from day to day. What does a catering and event company do when there are zero events and parties are limited to ten or less people? They rethink their position and look at what might be a need or void they can fill. That is exactly what the folks at Butter + Vine Catering and Events did.

Located in the Hermosa section of Chicago, Butter + Vine is a specialty caterer who can do anything from a corporate event, wedding, Bar or Bat Mitzvah, confirmation, Quinceanera or personal event. As we all know, the events are not taking place during this Covid 19 pendemic, so they switched gears to something that would make sense and keep their business alive- home delivered meals! The selection is varied and allows a family to select the meals they want as if  they were out for the evening in a fine dining restaurant. Jane and I made our selections- Cedar Plank Salmon, a chopped Asian Salad, lobster Mac. pan seared scallops and chicken peri-peri. This was scheduled, but before they bring those, in order to have us try their food, they brought us a sampling of menu items.

Herb Brick Chicken ( three meaty pieces of chicken with red potatoes/mashed and green beans). This box, as all packages had full instructions on how to either “nuke” or bake and use all the items that came with ( sauces etc).. Included in our sample box was a lobster roll. Again, complete instructions on the preparation of this wonderful item. If you are a lobster lover, you will find this as good as anything you might enjoy in Maine.

The salad that we received was a watermelon and cucumber salad and in reality could have easily been shared by four, but we both were able to have more than enough. Freshness is the key to having meals delivered and every item was sheer perfection. The last item was something unusual- the leg-o-lambwich. I am not big on lamb but must say that this meat was as tender and tasty as I could imagine. The bun and all the ingredients , again were very fresh and tasty.

Each package has the instructions on the alternative preparations. They are easy to follow. By the way, the packages are hand delivered ( contactless) and every item can be either refrigerated for up to four days or frozen for up to six months. With this system, you can plan your meals for days that you might not be able to cook. Kids are going back to school and maybe they will be schooled at home, but everyone still needs to eat. You can have some of these tasty meals in the freezer or fridge to cover you on those days that you just do not want to cook. Of greater importance are the days when getting agreement on “what’s for dinner?” is impossible. Everyone can have the meal they ordered- just pop it in the microwave or oven and you will know that you are giving your family a meal that is well prepared and just what they ordered.
