“Fire Thyme Kitchen/Bar is a treat for diners!

***** For several years, Jane and I lived in Glenview, along Route 43 ( Waukegan Road). We always washed our cars at the car wash down the street, right beyond Pizano’s Pizza ( one of the original deep-dish pizza restaurants in the area). We dined there often , but always felt that the area truly needed a restaurant that was more than Italian. We moved away and a sit turns out so did Pizano’s, and in its place a very cool restaurant. Fire Thyme Kitchen + Bar. Chef/Owner Jamie Bisioulis has redesigned the dining room adding a small room that is perfect for private parties and a game area. Let’s say that the menu is “American comfort food” inspired by French and Mediterranean cuisines. I have hear people say that every dish is a celebration of taste and so, Frank , Cary, Jane and I went there to see just how accurate that was!

Our server, Rocky ( who is also a bartender making some very special beverages) was quite attentive making sure that we understood every little nuance in the custom menu. Chef Jamie came by our table and explained some of the differences from the old dining experience and also explained how some of the items on her menu came to be. Frank and Cary enjoyed Manhattans ( they have a special one called the Glenview which was as good as I have ever tasted. I am always the Vodka martini guy and they have little onions to go along with the olives- perfect. Jane, the almost never drinks diner enjoyed  an Aperol Spritzer( sweet and tangy with a little zip).

For our appetizers: one flatbread: the Philly Cheesesteak- croissant flatbread, creamy brick cheese, American cheese, sliced ribeye and fresh thyme- delicious, even if you are not a pizza lover, you will truly enjoy this. They have other options as well. Other appetizers are Greek F-Bombs, Lobster Roll Sliders, Wings, a design your own grazing board and Jamie’s very special Chicken Kyiv Meatballs ( ground chicken, Nordic butter, Boursin cheese, chives, tapioca and starch with pull apart ciabatta) Worth the trip just for a cocktail and these starters.

For our entree’s we selected two of their many sandwiches: The grilled cheese and bacon is absolutely amazing. Croissant bread, extra thick bacon, tomato, American cheese and Prairie breeze white cheddar. We loved the waffle fries. The smash burger is another delicious basic and it is served on a challah bun with special slaw, pickle, diced onion and the burger is a double patty- again waffle fries.

The other two items that we chose off of their huge menu were the Lobster Roll Pasta ( knuckle and claw meat, brown butter, lemon, chives, parmesan cheese, fresh thyme and pappardelle make this perfect ) and to top it off, we truly enjoyed the Lamb Chops- double cut chops, gyro herbs, garlic, lemon, extra virgin olive oil served with delicious mashed potatoes and greens.

Dessert was a tough choice. First of all, they had far more than we could think of, and secondly, we had pretty much reached the point of being full, so we decided to pick two and share. I am a bread pudding lover, so the Lemon Blueberry Bread Pudding was first ( candies croissants cake tops, vanilla bean custard, lemon zest, blueberries, vanilla gelato, vanilla whip and shortbread crumble). Second, the Brownie Sundae (gluten free fudge brownie, vanilla gelato, chocolate Ganache caramel, whipped cream, and of course a maraschino cherry).

This is a very family friendly dining room with an amazing KIDS menu :Mac-n-cheese, pizza, chicken tenders a special char-kid-erie Board ( fries, turkey breast, cheddar cheese, flatbread bites and fresh berries) and of course, my grandkids favs, Buttered Noods ( noodles). They also have a great selection of salads and wraps so everyone in the family can enjoy what they like, yet do it as a family.
