Bar Food in a Wicker Park Bar

*** A funny thing happened on the way to our Escape Room adventure on Milwaukee Avenue. A Bar & Grill that I had visited several months ago, which happened to be 100 yards to the south of the Escape Room contacted Frank and I about letting people know that they were far more than a sports bar. By the way, they are across the street from the Den Theatre Complex, so they fit what you need ( they are also less than two blocks away from The Chopin Theatre on Division.

Our host Alex and server ,Alina were great and the food that we ate was as good as a bar might be. By the way, their martinis were wonderful ( and they didn’t skimp on the vodka).

As usual, Jane and I arrived before Frank and Cary, so we began our meal with some homemade guacamole and chips. From their  starter menu we had some great cheese curds ( felt like we were in Wisconsin) fried lightly with a wonderful homemade marinara sauce and some Quesadillas (rice tortilla, cheese with just the right tang.

We also had one of their burgers ( they have several options)- ours was the Standard on brioche bun with everything on it and great French fries. We tried a pizza as well- the Pepperoni with 4 cheeses and a tangy sauce.

FYI- the menu is vast covering every taste one can imagine. Wraps, salads, paninis, tacos ( shrimp, steak or fish) Veggie dishes for those non-meat diners and how could you have as many TV’s on the wall and not have a giant pretzel ( next time for sure).

The Standard Bar & Grill is located at 1332 N. Milwaukee Avenue and is open:

They open daily 5 p.m. until 2 a.m.
