A little bit of Mexico comes to Northbrook!

***** There is a new eatery in town ( Northbrook) and the place is amazing! If you are into Mexican cuisine, you are in for a big surprise. We had heard that Nick from The Grill House in Northbrook was considering opening another place, but wanted something that was lacking in the Greater Northbrook area. How about Mexican food? In fact, how about Mexican food that will blow the competition away?

“They’re Here!” For dine in, carry out and even catering, the new Cabo Mexican Cocina located in the White Plains Shopping Center in Northbrook is the place to go. They offer the best of ingredients, vibrant flavors and the traditions in every dish they serve. The unique flavors and great tastes will make you feel that you have landed in your favorite resort in Mexico. While the dining room is on the small side, even on a crowded Thursday evening, once we got past the dinner hour, the crowd thinned out and the noise level went down. A great number of families choose to order online and come and pick up. We saw bag after bag leave the premises and those carrying the bags, had smiles on their faces, leaving me to believe they had been there before and knew what they were in store for.

Our friends Alan and Vickie joined Jane and I. Jane had been there with her canasta friends and enjoyed one of their fresh salads. We also went by one night with our grandson for some tacos whichwere stupendous- in fact, better than any others I have had in the Chicago area, so when asked to do a full story, I quickly replied YES! YES!

I asked Nick to surprise us with a menu sampling so we could try several different items as “shareables”. With the assistance of our designated server, Evelyn, we handled a great number of dishes and every one of them was loved by all. The regular system at Cabo’s is to place your order, find your table and then the servers will bring your food to you as the kitchen prepares each and every dish. It is all fresh and made to order. FYI They have a full bar and their bartenders know how to pour a great drink!

We began our evening with Chips and Guacamole. The chips homemade and warm- the Guac rich and creamy. The dinner was Fajitas:

Grilled Steak

Grilled Chicken

Grilled Shrimp

All served on a hot cast iron skillet w/marinated grilled onions, tricolor bell peppers, Borachio beans, guacamole, Mexican rice, sour cream, shredded romaine and a choice of homemade corn or flour tortillas. ( you can do a mix and match with these) and from the dinner menu, the grilled Sea bass – OUTSTANDING)

For our dessert- Flan ( vanilla custard in a caramel syrup) and the Mexican Key Lime Pie ( graham cracker crust), delicious. We also got to taste the Churro Fries as the table next to us was filled with our daughter and her friends on a Girls Night Out and the order was far more than they could handle.

The menu is filled with other delights such as soups, salads, Rice Bowls, Botanos. Burritos, Tortas and of course, the aforementioned tacos

( I do believe them to be the best in the area).
