Smoothie King, the nation’s #1 smoothie franchise, is launching the Smoothie King “king of coffee” Pop-Up Experience & Tour at Chicago’s Union Station on Thursday, September 29, passing out samples of their new smoothies that deliver the flavor and buzz of espresso or cold brew blended with the brand’s signature clean-ingredient recipes.
Eventually traveling to three other cities across the county after Chicago, Smoothie King will bring an energizing experience of “Coffee x Creativity x Culture” through a one-of-a-kind, custom-branded 20’ hi-cube shipping container pop-up featuring mural artworks by two celebrated street-meets-fine artists: Chicago-based Sentrock (aka Joseph Perez) and Portland-based Ryan Bubnis.
Joseph Perez, best known as “Sentrock” is a self-taught street artist. Sentrock witnessed street art as a form of expression, birthing his interest to pick up a spray can and continue his artistic voice. His early works were developed from graffiti writing in Mexican-American neighborhoods. Sentrock’s signature bird-mask over a human figure has become his most recognizable declaration. Sentrock describes his bird-mask as analogous to humanity: a person who is able to find or escape to their freedom by placing them in a different reality. Through his work, he has become a catalyst for his community. His work presents undertones of hope, freedom, and expression. His work encapsulates his background, history, upbringing, empathy, and compassion for his community. Sentrock chose to work with Smoothie King because he feels the brand aligns with his values and likes smoothies and coffee. He likes that Smoothie King directly connects to the everyday person, which he says he is all about. He enjoyed the creative freedom he had working with Smoothie King and reflecting the neighborhood culture of Chicago in his art for this partnership.
We spoke with Joseph on last Sunday’s show- he is a painter that uses other than canvass for his work. If you head down to Union Station on the 29th to taste some of the special treats Smoothie King has prepared, you will see his work. You can also enjoy some great photo-ops with his work of art and some giveaways for Smoothie King’s Healthy Rewards members. www.smoothieking.com
