Second City announces “ACCESSIBLE PROGRAMMING CALENDAR

(CHICAGO – February 20, 2019) The Second City is proud to continue improving and evolving the theater’s accessible programming in 2019. Through a partnership with the Theater Development Fund (TDF), the legendary comedy company is able to announce a full year’s worth of open captioned and audio described performances for the first time.

“In 2018, The Second City dove headfirst into the world of accessibility. With the help and support of the Theater Development Fund, we were able to offer our first-ever open captioned performances and have expanded our programming to offer audio described performances, as well. As the first sketch and improv theater to attempt open captioning, we had the opportunity to discover some creative solutions to the challenges presented by improvisation, an artform fueled by spontaneity,” said Second City Associate Producer Jesse Swanson, who is also part of The Second City’s Accessibility Committee. “After working with our patrons and partners in the deaf community, and with the support of TDF and C2 (caption coalition) inc., we are excited to offer an open captioned experience that is truly unique.”

With this programming, The Second City continues to work to provide increased accessibility accommodations and foster an environment of inclusion for every person in a way that respects the dignity and independence of all, including those with disabilities.

The Second City is eager to expand and advance accessible programming for years to come. Please see below for the 2019 Accessible Programming Calendar.
