New show at Royal George

Get ready Chicago. The Royal George Theatre will be hosting another brand new musical next month. “Hit Her With The Skates” a new musical about life , love and the roller-rink will open in March. Starring American Idol power couple Diana DeGarmo and Ace Young we will bear witness t a World Premiere of a new musical with a book by Christine Rea ( who alos did the lyrics) and music by Rick Briskin, we will  see a different “coming of age ” story.  It is 1994 and Rock star, Jaqueline Miller  (DeGarmo) is a headliner on her first national tour, has a hit record and for the most part is at the top of her game. She has also made arrangements to go back to her childhood haunt, the Roller-Rink, Windy City Skates ( can you guess where this rink is?) to assist with their re-opening.

As this is all taking place, her love life takes a detour and being the trouper she is, she heads back home where she finds herself in 1977 and meets up with her 12 year old “Self” From this point, the musical explores the magic and hope of finding your one true love while still being true to yourself.

Directed by Brenda Didier ( one of my Chicago favorites) and choreographed by Christopher Chase Carter on the main stage at The Royal George, I am anticipating having a lot of fun. We had a brief look at the show through an amazing number called “Forward Motion”. This is a mixture of “Grease” meets “Hair Spray” with a little bit of “Xanadu” just for good measure.
