Highly Recommended ***** Tonight, I saw the “light at the end of the tunnel”. Guess where? In Munster, Indiana! Yes, the Theatre at the Center, during this Covid Era, has become “The Center For Visual and Performing Arts, and I was very impressed. They have been using their “banquet room” during this “era” to do dinner and a movie or just a movie with guests and now that things are getting much better, they are doing some live performances. Today, a few days before Mother’s Day, they did a two show lunch/show and/or dinner show starring the amazing Cory Goodrich ( who has graced their main stage many, many times) and her co-hort Ethan Deppe.
Jane and I attended the evening show with dinner served at 6:30 and the show at 7:30 p.m. I will say that the plated dinner catered by the Trama catering company ( they do the functions at The Center) was a solid dinner, starting with potato leek soup, then an angel hair pasta with marinated grilled chicken in a pesto cream with sauteed zucchini and a warmed roll. For desert, a cannoli cake, which is something I had never tasted- it was a perfect, light and tasty way to end a dinner with coffee and then showtime!
The show was 90 plus minutes of Cory telling us about her adventures in the world of music, her life and the things she learned in the past few years as she watched her mother pass away, while learning a great deal about who she was and how she got to where she was. Cory’s book ( I reviewed it several weeks ago), “Folksong: A Ballad of Death, Discovery, and DNA” is an interesting look at her life from her angle. She spoke to us about her journey into finding answers, her attraction to her new creative art, painting, her songwriting, her acting and in all we get to know the woman who has entertained us for years.
She also signed books and CD’s and had some marvelous paintings on display. Here are just two of the many.
I call the one on the far right , “Sunday in the park with Cory and Ethan”
While this show is over, she will be back, somewhere very soon. You can check he rout at www.corygoodrich.com
