Chicago is loaded with Cabaret performers more often than not, it has been at Davenports Cabaret Bra on North Milwaukee Avenue that these performers bring to life “other performers” in a small intimate setting. Now the Skokie Theatre, which has been recently changed over, under the direction of MadKap Productions to a multi-use house, is bringing Cabaret to Skokie every Thursday night.
It all starts on May 15th with Scott Gryder’s “Life is A Cabaret” the music and Words of Kander and Ebb ( who brought to the stage: “Cabaret”, “Woman of The Year”, “Chicago” and more. all seats $20, showtime at 8 p.m.
On may 22nd, the talented Deborah Darr brings to the stage her “Auditioning for Life: Broadway and Me” sharing her real life adventures of her life in New York City, on the Broadway stage. Again an 8 p.m. start and a $20 ticket.
For those of you who remember America’s Sweetheart, Doris Day, you will love Laura Freeman’s “Sentimental Journey”The Music of Doris day” on May 29th, honoring her 90th birthday and featuring song titles such as “Secret love”, “Everybody Loves a Lover” and of course “Sentimental Journey”.She was more than just another pretty blonde- she was the woman men wanted to come back from war for- the girl next door and with a voice that was as dainty and precious as any other. Also an 8 p.m. start.
June 26th is Kat Victoria “She Works Hard For Her Money”- not a walk down memory lane, a one woman show that deals with a waitress who makes it to the stage of the Apollo. While it is a one woman show, Ms Victoria also has with her Derrick Bounds and the Joel hall Dancers.
