As the holidays approach, many of us think back to those glorious days in television history when Karen and Richard, The Carpenters, would do one of their Christmas or Holiday specials. While they are just wonderful memories in our hearts, there is an opportunity to recapture the emotion and cheer those specials brought us, “live” as singer Lisa Rock and her 6 piece band keep this tradition alive at The Metropolis Performing Arts Center in downtown Arlington Heights. Lisa and her band bring all those favorite traditional songs to the stage, based on the music of the Carpenters two holiday albums and variety shows in a holiday concert that spreads joy and cheer to one and all.
This is a one night only celebration of the music of The Carpenters- December 16th at The Metropolis located at Campbell and Vail in downtown Arlington Heights, with plenty of dining spots in the area and free parking galore. The concert, featuring memories such as “Merry Christmas Darling” and the jazzy “Santa Claus is Comin’ To Town” will begin at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are only $25. Right before the concert, author Randy Schmidt will talk about his books “Little Girl Blue: The Life of Karen Carpenter” and “Yesterday Once More:The Carpenters Reader”. He will discuss both and have copies available to purchase.
The cost for this session, which begins at 6 p.m. is $10 of which $5 can be applied to the purchase of either book.
To purchase tickets for either or both, contact the Metropolis box office by phone 847-571-2121, or at the box office or online at www.MetropolisArts.com
I have seen Ms Rock in concert in the past and can assure you she is worth the drive to Arlington Hts. I am planning to be there as well, so seek me out and say hello!
