I love chili. I have certain restaurants where that is my only selection. Last night after leaving the fabulous play at Steppenwolf Theatre (“Little Bear Ridge Road” see my review at Theater) Jane and I were hungry and since we were close, we decided to visit an old haunt of ours, “Fat Willies” in Logan Square, where I loved their five cheese chili. When we got there we found that Willie was gone, but in its place we found Joker’s Cajun Smokehouse. They were open! We were hungry!
Since it was almost 9 p.m. on a Sunday, we were alone. Michael, the host , welcomed us and told us a little of the history of the Joker ( they also do food truck parties) and advised us that even though the name had CAJUN in it, the food could be done less “hot”, as Jane is not good with “hot”.
When I opened the menu, which has everything a BBQ lover would die for, my eye caught the brisket chili and I needed no more. They had either a cup or an entrée portion. Since it was late, both of us enjoyed the smaller portion but we also got a small Mac N’ Cheese ( another of my favorites). They use a shell noodle which allows the cheese to truly saturate.
The chili was delish- BBQ brisket, cheese, onions and sour cream ( peppers for something eye opening). They have inside and outside seating.
They are located at 2416 W. Schubert in Chicago
phone 312-818-1325
