Here it is, December. The weather outside is colder than we have had with forecasts of snow, sleet and some rain. Dreary days, for sure!
When the weather changes to this, it is time for soup and when it comes to great soups, filled with flavor and great , natural ingredients, there is no place like Prairie Grass in Northbrook. Thos of you who read the articles last year know how I love soup. I will say that when it comes to Jewish Penicillin ( AKA Matzo Ball Soup) I run to either The Continental in Buffalo Grove or Max’s Deli in Highland Park. These are my favorites in the Chicagoland area.
When it comes to tasty soups, Sarah and her crew at Prairie Grass have the best of the best. Today I picked up three of her very special soups- the first Butternut Squash ( we had this as part of our Thanksgiving dinner this year and it was the hit of the meal. I am saving that one for Friday night ( the day before we leave for Israel).
I also picked up the soup we will eat on Tuesday and or Wednesday, Mushroom Soup. I must tell you that I am not a mushroom lover and for the most part avoid them. In tasting Sarah’s soups before I know that her magic will change my taste buds quickly. I will update this story later this week.
Today’s flavor of the day, vegetarian Lentil soup. It is delish! Flavorful and richly satisfying. The lentils, carrots, celery and vegetable broth make for a wonderful lunch ( with a few oyster crackers, or not). The amazing soup can be reheated on the stove or in a microwave ( I did it both ways) and both keep the flavors as if you were enjoying in Sarah’s restaurant, The Prairie Grass Café located at 601 N. Skokie Blvd. in Northbrook.
Of course you can always dine-in, but if you are a soup lover and just want to have some of her soup on hand, be assured that what you can pick up and serve at home is wonderful. For info call 847-205-4433
They are open daily from 11 am-2 p.m. for lunch and from 5 p.m. for dinner

They also have a special Christmas Holiday at Home menu. Place your order by 12/21 and Sarah and George will make sure you have everything you need for a fabulous holiday meal.
Short Rib dinner for two and it looks very special. Check it out.
I can tell you from experience, farm to table is healthy and flavorful.
The people at Prairie Grass are also helpful in making sure your experience is memorable, dine-in or carry out!
Butternet Squash- 12/12- As good as I recall from Thanksgiving. I truly believe this to be the “soup of the Gods”. I love it. This being said, I am the person who doesn’t like pumpkin “anything” and yet, squash, which is from the same family, prepared in the soup as Prairie Grass Café prepares it, makes my day!
