The other night ( Monday,August 16th), Broadway In Chicago presented its annual concert- “Summer Concert” at Millenium Park with The City Of Chicago and its park district as well as the Department of Cultural Affairs> The weather was ideal. Not hot! Not muggy! And guess what?-No rain!. This is the annual event where BIC shows us previews of what to expect in the season that will be coming up. As always, a fun-filled evening with great music on the stage at The Pritzker Pavilion, featuring over a dozen shows that will hit our stages in the year to come.
One of the shows is one that has been playing for many years in our city. In fact, “Million Dollar Quartet” now in its fifth year at The Apollo Theater on Lincoln Avenue had its birth at The Goodman. What fun it has been to watch over the years ( I think I am at six times, and it is still a wonderful experience).
Other shows new to our audiences are “Evil Dead,The Musical”, “Amazing Grace”, “Newsies”, and an exciting new show , “The Illusionists”, which based on the preview we witnessed, is sure to make you gasp in amazement. WOW! I am looking forward to more magic on our stages! “First Wives Club” based on the movie will be coming and Rogers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” along with the remount of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast”, a new version of “Pippin”, a new concept in Holiday shows: Dee Snider’s “Rock & Roll Christmas Tale” as told by a “Twisted Sister”. Another, “I can’t wait to see this new look at the holidays”!
Rounding out the year on our stages, a remount of “Jersey Boys ( a favorite of mine), the return of “our baby”, “Kinky Boots” and an old classic “Annie”/ For the kids, there is also a new “Hansel and Gretel” brought to The Broadway Playhouse by our own Emerald City Players. To add to all this, it was also announced that during the 2014/2015 season, we will be treated to a 12 week run, “Beautiful,The Carole King Musical” is coming to town. Talk about timing, it will arrive in December ( perfect for the holidays) and run through February 21st. Not sure if Jessie Mueller will bring the show in or run here for a part of the run ( seeing as this is her home town, it would be fabulous to have the Tony Award winner grace the stage at The Oriental Theatre. Only time will tell, but this may be your Christmas gift to yourselves!
What a wonderful night! What a wonderful line-up! To keep in touch visit www.BroadwayInChicago.com so you can see times dates and order early. See you at the Theater.
